Hello! Recently traded my 2017 trd off-road lifted for a 2022 limited. And the difference is a lot to get used to ! After many years of off-road adventures, my back was killing me on the 12 hour drives to get to the forest. The daily driving aspect was kind of uncomfortable. I'm very happy with how the limited rides and the sound system is amazing ! The comfort ! Not having to take a running jump to get into my vehicle. I am getting used to the lower ride and plan to change the tires. I don't want do to a lift . But I see a lot of limited owners without chrome and I am wondering how they did that. The chrome is the only thing I am questioning on it. Maybe I am just used the a certain look with a 4Runner, I just prefer the look of the solid colors. Thanks for having me I am happy to be here !

The two guys in the previous thread didnt have Limited.
You can buy cover kits and vinyl kits to cover the chrome or you can swap out parts from a TRD Sport which is color matched.
It all depends on how far you want to go with it and how much work and money you want to spend on it.

Here is a video of what the TRD Sport looks like, its a Limited exterior but does not have the chrome. If you wrapped your chrome with black, or swapped out for the TRD Sport parts this is essentially what you would look like.

Thanks for your response and for the response on my other thread. I didn't think those guys looked like limiteds but I wasn't sure. I hope their answers about tires still stand , given we have different rim sizes on the ltd. I saw that their bumpers looked higher like my old trd which made me question but just assumed they had done some mods. I have seen the chrome cover kits and they have mixed reviews. I will look into the vinyl film next. If it involves me removing trim I'll probably forgo it because I am just not that motivated . It is interesting to note the sport. We never get those around here for some reason. The limited purchase was somewhat an impulse by after yet another uncomfortable looong drive in an uncomfortable seat. The trd is not suited for road trips. Unfortunately it takes 12 hours to get to the fun roads. I know I sacrifice a lot of off-road capabilities with the ltd but to drive it every day is so nice. But the entire look is a lot different and takes some getting used to. Not one of life's more important issues , just something I noticed . I thank you for your very informed response on this and my other thread !

To my eyes the aftermarket blackout kits don't look good. I would leave the chrome as is and more likely to grow on you soon.

I'm not a fan of those low running boards on Limited. I would remove they if it was me.

To my eyes the factory TRD Offroad wheels match very nicely to the Limited. At least on my Silver Limited it matches perfectly.

Since mine is lifted it may not be relevant for this thread.

Since your limited is lifted you may have 17 inch rims if you are using factory trd . I cannot use those unless I got a lift which I don't want to do.

The running boards bug me. Not only the appearance but my foot only fits halfway on. They are narrow and I always feel like my foot is about to slip off and twist my ankle. I haven't figured out how they are attached ( body or frame) but I am thinking of taking them off before someone gets hurt.

The 17" wheels and tires from an Off Road, or any other 4R will fit fine without a lift on a Limited. Plenty of owners have made the switch.

    They mount on the body.

They are held on with small bolts under the body
You can take them off with a wrench or impact in a few minutes
The Limited running boards are narrow, and sit under the body. Your foot only fits on it about half way like you describe, i too have had my foot slip off them before, now i have the automatic running boards on both of my 5th gens because they swing out much further. If you can step into the 4R without running boards, then take them off.

You can physically fit 17" rims on the Limited, the suspension and fenders are the same, you can even fit the same size tire a TRD Offroad and SR5 will, but running larger tires than stock will inherently rub the fenders or the inner fender liner. To stay as close to stock as possible and not rub, the 275/55-20 tire is the best "beefy" size that will fit and not rub on a stock vehicle.

The black out stick on kits are ok for someone who wants to look different at 50ft away but i agree, they dont look "clean" up close. The vinyl wraps are usually done professionally, there is likely a shop near you that does window tinting, and vinyl wraps on vehicles. These places have the specialty tools to tuck the vinyl film in the tight areas and know how to shrink it around curves.

You can perfectly remove factory 20in wheels and install 17in factory TRD Offroad wheels using the same lug nuts. You can run factory size 265/70R17 tires.

They are fitted to the body. Have 6 nuts on each side. If I can remember they were 12mm nuts. Easy to remove.

Keep all the chrome, embrace it. Then slap a set of tires like this on it:

I feel the same. Remove the Limited running board. It really cleans up the look. It's the biggest eye sore IMO.

Thank you for the tires I was misinformed ! I also feel the boards are halfway under the body and really not useful. my father in law had issues with it. Have tried aligning my foot along the side, or using only my toe, I have to be super conscious entering and exiting the car and it's weird. I think I will take them off.

It looks much better with the silver color. With the black it stands out more.

Live without the running board for a few weeks. See if the other chrome stops bothering you. It did for me. I see people plastidip, paint or put wrap over the chrome and it does not appeal to me.

Toyota has been all-in on chrome for decades past when it was popular. No idea why it still puts chrome all over their vehicles when every manufacturer went monochrome decades ago. I spent a good bit of money erasing all that crap from my 4Runner after I bought it.

I am just fine with the chrome on my Windchill Pearl '24 Limited, doesn't bother me at all. Maybe it would with a darker paint?

    Same with the running boards
I can get in without stepping on them, but have no problem getting my foot on them.

I had my husband take the boards off tonight. I can never get my foot fully into them and always feel as if I'm going to slip off and hurt myself. It feels very insecure footing. I'm glad you like them ! Your car looks great with the chrome. I think I like the lighter color with it.

Looks much better without side steps. I also find them not very useful personally, but kids need them to get in unassisted.
