I bought a 2006 Sport with no lift and factory wheels and 265/70/17 tires, the previous owner went with tires about 1” larger in diameter than stock. They are basically new tires so I’ll keep them, and I want to change the wheels to 17x8 with a +10 offset and lift the front end probably 1” to help level the truck.

According to an offset comparison tool, the new wheels with extend 1” past where the stock wheels extend. There are currently no rubbing issues, maybe since he installed a Move bumper and trimmed a little of the inner fender liner. Should I get the lift done before the wheels? I was going to get the wheels next week, and I don’t think the 1” further out would matter, but wasn’t sure.

Also, it needs the rear shocks replaced, and I haven’t checked to see if it has the x-reas system, but sounds like I’d need to replace all 4 if that’s the case. If I do, what should I replace with to maintain a factory ride (I don’t go off road), and maybe the right adjustable shock would solve my ride height issue.

I don’t know much about wheels and offsets, but post a pick when you’re got them on

@Tommy63 - I don’t think you need to do any kind of lift before you get the wheels, but not 100% certain without seeing it.

If you have X-REAS still on the truck, count on buying aftermarket because replacing it is quite cost prohibitive.

Have a look at my “X-REAS delete…” post linked in my sig (read from the bottom up). I think the Tacoma takeoff route could be exactly right for you giving your usage plans. You’d be getting nearly new OEM parts for a fraction of the cost and the TRD Offroad version will lift the front and just enough to level it. My post has pics.

Put on some new rear shocks and you’re good to go, although I always recommend replacing the rear springs as well Because of how old they are if original and because springs don’t cost very much.

My two cents. Let us know what you decide to do.

I need to get under it and look, my son has it for now (and may end up with it). I’m learning all kinds of info on the truck, mostly good but a couple quirky things like the x-reas… great information, thanks!
