Around a week ago, we sold our beloved 4th gen and very quickly thereafter picked up nice TRD 5th gen. It obviously has a small (2”-3”) lift on it, but * surprisingly * our Carmax salesman knew nothing about it. After digging into it a bit, the vehicle has SPC upper control arms but after rolling around underneath it for a while, I cannot find a single marking that would tell me the manufacturer of the lift. There is a sticker in the door jam that says the vehicle has a reduced towing capacity due to a mod (assuming that was from the original sale/dealer?) but no idea if that has to do with the lift.

Any ideas on how to find out what I have here? I’m not unhappy with the vehicle in any way, I just want to know what I’m working with.

    Any help appreciated!

Pictures of the suspension itself is what we need to see.

Will do. After the sun comes up tomorrow I’ll throw up some photos. Any areas that would be more helpful than others?

Front coil spring and shock, top and bottom, would be the most helpful.

You have Bilstein shocks all around, OEM coils surrounding them.

It's possible they're Dobinsons nitros as well. Are there any boots or shock covers?

My guess would be Dobinson twin tube shocks and coils.

No boots or shock covers that I can see but I finally found some usable info. It’s a little tough to see in the pic but this says:

    Dobinson 123?6. GS59 705

    ? = number I couldn’t make out.

    (these are on the rear).

    97679BAC-CAFD-4394-8BDD-C244B833F7E7.jpg

I see there are numbers on the fronts too. Will have those in a couple minutes.

    Front says:

    Dobinson 12546 GS59 574

Also, here are a couple pictures of the suspension from underneath/in front. Hopefully they are useful.

I'm not a guy that gives up easily (especially not with something like this). It looks like this kit might be the one on it, as the shock options (by part number) add up.

    https://www.dobinsonsdirect.com/pro...nner-2010-18-with-kdss?variant=31801864618093

If anyone has input on the exact springs that may be on it, I'm all ears. I haven't had a lifted vehicle in over 30 years, so I'm way out of my element in that area.

Maybe. Does your truck have KDSS? I couldn’t tell by the pics. It looks like a little fat shock with a boot in front of the driver side lca. If not, it could be that lift in the non-KDSS config. https://www.dobinsonsdirect.com/pro...gen~yr_2010-2022-complete-suspension-lift-kit Their stuff is supposed to be solid. Looks like the previous owner did it right. Really nice truck. :D

I think it has it? Does this pic help? Sorry, for being so uninformed. I knew the old one inside and out but this is a lot different!

Also, thanks for the kind words! Really enjoying it!

No KDSS. You can see the front sway bar link to the spindle.

    OP,

I matched the front shock model# to a Dobinson shock using the Exit Off-road site for reference. You should be able to match the rear shock as well if you can get a clear ID on the model#.

Also, if you measure how much lift you have over stock, you may be able to identify the springs if they are Dobinson springs. Dobinson springs are available in teal, red and black so it is possible the lift on your T4R has Dobinson shocks and springs along with the SPC upper control arms.
    These are all solid components….

    Cheers,
    Bob

I said "it could have" Dobinsons. Looks like I missed a "could" in the first sentence. Somehow I'll move on. But shit, thanks for guarding the gates keyboard samurai

@MTBST what do you think of the ride with that suspension? I’d also be curious to know what your center of hub to fender measurements are, as it might help identify what springs were used.

When was the last time you grease those SPCs? They need some TLC. They need to be greased every oil change. Good looking truck!!
