As we get out more and more my wife is getting hooked. After this weekends adventure where a macaroni salad blew up in the cooler, it was in the ice and all over, everything we took out had to be cleaned up, it was pain in the ass but now she’s on board with the idea of a fridge.

The dual battery is setup is in, I have an 85ah battery dedicated to accessories (chargers, lights, fridge) and everything is wired and ready to go. I’ve been thinking for a while about getting a Dometic CFX40W, I’ve read the specs for the size but I can’t visualize how much real estate it will take up in the back. What fridges do you have, what is your intended use, are you happy with it and most importantly, let’s see some pics of it installed.

I’m not at all interested in a giant dual zone. I will operate it as a fridge, I don’t need it to refrigerate and freeze at the same time and I want to take up as little space as possible.

Try block ice in your cooler. It melts more slowly. Anything you want to keep colder, you pack next to or on top of the block (depending on dimensions of your cooler). Check for ice companies or RV supply or camp grounds.

I saw that but that’s to big, I’m not willing to give up that much real estate. I’m leaning towards a Dometic CFX40W which I believe is a 38liter. Same foot print at the CFX35W just slightly taller.

Nice! Just wondering how you power it? It looks like a 50 - is that right? Do you know if this model has been made obsolete in any fundamental way from the new ones? The local 4 Wheelparts Store has one like that that has been on the floor for a long time and they’ll discount it to clear it.

It’s the 63QT one, it’s not as tall as the 50 and longer. I bought the wiring kit and ran it directly to the battery.

here’s a better pic of the set up.

Could you elaborate on that modification? My only regret with my TRD OP is not getting the sliding cargo deck?!

    Thanks

Yep I regret not getting the slide deck too. I am searching for one now in my area and it can be ordered but cost 1300 bucks. not worth it to me yet. Maybe someone will want to get rid of theirs soon.

The fridge is bolted to a ARB fridge slide which is bolted to a 1/2” sheet of plywood that’s bolted to the floor of the 4R.

I guess I should follow up since this was my thread. Here was what I ended up with.

I didnt have enough rivnuts on hand so I had to order more but this was the gist of it. I wanted to to do 3 rivnuts along the brace and 2 towards the back with spacers.

    Rivnuts installed
    [IMG]

I cut off the insulation from the underside of the carpet where the board would sit to give it a more solid surface on the hard foam under the carpet and bring the overall height down a hair.

I countersank the 5 holes to mount the board the to the floor of the body so it sits flat and flush and for the side to attached I used pronged t nuts that were glued and hammered in. Then I coated the board with black primer/sealer scuffed it up and hit it with 4 coats of bedliner.

I cut holes in the thick foam for the spacers to slide in, then I cut small holes in the trunk carpet for the bolts to pass through and I cut out a section of the Canvas Back liner so it can just be permanently sandwiched in there and mounted up the board. Its super solid, it doesn't flex or move.

From there I bolted up the DFG Offroad slide.

I checked to see how long I'd need the wiring before cutting the 12v plug off and installing an Anderson SB50 connection.

When I was planning everything I was measured known dimensions out with a tape measure and made some assumptions about the unknowns and it was going to be to close to tell if it would fit with the privacy cover or not. I'm happy to say it all came together exactly how I had hoped.
You can retract the cover and the fridge can be opened and closed as it sits. With the cover in place, it can be slid right out and opened.
