So, I bought this thing and PROMISED myself I wouldn't lift it cause of all the problems I had with my tacoma when i lifted it. ( two blown CV's and 2 blown joints) But I can't take the look of this thing stock. I've been lying to myself for 50k miles. I know I don't want a 3 inch lift, but maybe just something that evens out the front and fixes the nose dive? Do they make stock height rear springs that can carry more weight?

Help with the set up...or the nest post might cost me 6k...

$6k? What the hell you buying?

I’m running an OME suspension that got me 3” higher and haven’t had one issue with blown CV’s or joints. Hell, ran the same set up on my previous 4R and it lasted me 80k before trading it in

The 6k was referring to me going all out on ICONS. The most offloading this things ever gonna see is when I drive over the neighbors flower bed. That's why I'm looking at something mid level and not that high.

I've been hearing some bad things about the quality with those. Any truth to it?

I don’t know anything about the quality, I’m just not a fan of the company or their history. Personal choice to not spend my money on their hardware.

King’s, Fox, Bilstein, Toytec, and Dobinsons, are all very well built suspensions. They are highly rated in the industry as well. I don’t know where or who have given you information that they have quality issues? In fact, I would go with any of them over Icon any day.

If you’re not taking your vehicle off-road, then you would be wasting your money on any lift really. Spacers should do the job for you in that case. You mentioned that you busted CVs and joints because of a 3” lift? That’s unheard of in normal road travel only. I’ve owned two Tacomas over the years and both were lifted 4” and 6” respectively. I took them off-roading all the time and never blew CVS or joints. I believe that there may have been something else wrong with your Tacoma or the install.

My current T4R has a 3” lift from Dobinson and it’s a beast. I suggest that you swing by a truck modification shop and have a good chat with them to see what they can recommend for you. I firmly believe that you can get a top of the line lift for your truck for $2500.

You can get into a Eibach Pro level 1 kit for less than a thousand dollars from Wheelers and it will do all the things you listed. No more dive. Rides great. Levels it out. Don't need UCA's either. Million mile warranty. Replaces the shocks and springs. Reviews on it are great. The stock suspension sucks after 30,000 miles IMO.

I have this kit but have not installed it yet. I went with stiffer OME rear springs to carry more weight vs. the Eibach kit springs. It cost me $1050 shipped with the front struts assembled by Wheelers.

That's what i'm saying, that I SHOULD go with the others over ICONS. I've just heard some things about the company and QC that made people shy away. AS for the Tacoma, I blew two boots on the CV's. One I noticed when I started hearing the cracking sound, so I learned from that and checked the other and found it early enough to repair it. The U-joints I guess I can't say were the lift's fault. They started going at around 90k, but I've never had that happen in any other vehicle so I figured it was lift related.

So for the lift, I won't be off roading this thing anytime soon here in CT, but i will be making my way out to Oregon in a year, so I figured that although I won't be doing heavy off roading, a small lift would be nice for fire roads and stuff

I know a lot of folks run King’s and are very happy with them and their quality. I ran OME on my old 2010 4Runner TE and had 80k+ miles on them with zero issues, this with an ARB and Warn winch up front. No CV or U-Joint problems out of it.

Not sure why you’re hung up on I***ns as the end all be all for you suspension but they aren’t without their issues too. On TW I’ve seen several threads with people talking about them leaking.

I am def not thinking the ICONS were my only option. I was looking at the bilstiens. Kings also. I know I had the OME on my tacoma and didn't want to go back to that, so now i'm exploring other options.

Did I read somewhere that when you lift a 4runner, it shifts to the left a little? Don't know where i heard that. i could be way off.

I have a KDSS equipped 4R and lifted, I don’t have an issue with lean and do have the trim packer on the drivers side. There is a KDSS calibration procedure and the acceptable difference between passenger and drivers side is .787”

I don't have KDSS or XREAS so maybe it won't be an issue for me?

Are Kings rebuildable? And if so, how many miles and how long does it take?

Yes they are rebuildable and I’m not sure on the interval. You can either send them to King or buy the rebuild kit and DIY

How long does it take to actually rebuild them> We taking a day or a week to send them out? And with mostly Daily driving with some road\camp\light backcountry trips, can I get 50k out of them before a rebuild?

Most people would send them off for rebuild
Keep your oem parts and add a spacer for temporary use to put on while they’re off for rebuilding

Ok, cool. You can’t go wrong with any of the mentioned lifts in a 3” lift. The ride quality and handling is maintained and in most cases, it’s much better. Dealerships don’t even gripe about 3” lifts and they don’t affect your warranty. They are very affordable and will make your T4R more versatile whenever you need it to be. Colorado will definitely prove to be a good challenge for your lifted truck.

If my memory serves me correctly it's roughly

    Off road only: 10k max

    Daily driver/off road: 25k-3k

    Daily driver: 50k

Depends on how hard you push the shocks like everyone have said so far.

Yes, they are. I have them on one of my Tundra pickup. For regular roadway driving with the occasional towing, you’ll get roughly 30k miles before minor rebuilding is needed. Many people that I known lube it and replace oils once a year regardless of mileage. The rebuild kits are very affordable and anyone that can do their own oil change, should be able to rebuild them by themselves.

If you use your truck for regular road driving, you should be able to get even much longer use out of them, before they will need to be rebuilt.

Thanks for the info. i don't know how things will change mileage wise when i move out to oregon, but right now in CT I drive 20-25k a year, so rebuilding can become a pain in the a$$. I just want to know what I'm getting into before I do this.
