Hey all- I've got a 22 sitting on 265/70/17,but looking to move to 285/70/17. Should I wait to tune until the 285s are on?

You do not have to wait. The tune is good for that tire size.

Will it adapt to the new tire size, I guess it what I'm asking? Or will I need a retune?

It will adapt. There is no tire size setting in Vftuner for the 4Runner.
(There is for the Tacomas and Tundras)

So, does a tune for a "22 4Runner include future updates?
    Thanks

Yes if we get any updates to the software that can improve the current tune those updates will be included.

I still haven't gone through 2 tanks of gas with 91 octane yet as I'm still chasing issues with the front end/tires/steering wheel shimmy. That being said, I'm really glad to have done the tune. It drives much better than it did. I'm not going to be able to do a good comparison between the 87 and 91 octane fuel because I only ran a half a tank of 87 before switching and was running the Pedal Commander before the tune. That being said, I still think it drives much better with the tune and without the Pedal Commander turned on. Certainly would recommend this to anyone who isn't happy with the 4R performance or just wants to get as much as they can out of it.

I keep reading back and forth, and frankly, because I don't understand octane variance, here's my question: post-tune, do I have to use 91? California driver.

No you do not have to run 91 octane. You can run 87 or 91 it will learn up or down depending on the octane you adding. If you are going up from 87 run your tank down as low as possible that way you do not dilute the higher octane. You dont want to add a half a tank of 91 to half a tank of 87 in the truck.

    Tune
As the VFtuner software gets updated, which happens often, we will continue to update our tune. We have a few 4Runners running a new tune with some improvements.
If you are running our current KDMax-Pro+XT tune and want to help with the testing to provide feedback, get with the KDMax tuner that flashed your 4Runner and let him know.

    Thanks @elnip for this feedback.

I've heard nothing but good things about these tunes and you really can feel the difference. Cant wait until it is available on the '23. Also for those in the Georgia area looking to get this done you should def hit up @storm.peacock on IG or stormpeacock.com. He has done this for like 6 of my friends.

Huge shout out to Dave (@TWTaco) for getting me setup with a TunerKit + KDMAX tune combo!! He got it to out me super quick and walked me through every step to get my truck flashed.

Unfortunately I've been swamped with work and haven't had the chance to drive my truck as much as I want, but here is an ~500 mile review. I first had the the Overland Torque Tune for a few thousand miles, and was a little frustrated with it. The low end power was good, however, the shifting was rough and jerky, and there was always some surging after each gear change. I also took a bit of an mpg hit, which was a little annoying since our rigs already don't have the greatest mpg numbers. :( I hoped that things would improve the more I drove the truck, but they never did.

I made the switch to the KDMAX+PRO+XT tune and couple not be happier. The low end torque is slightly down compared to OTT, but overall power is MUCH better than stock. Also, shifting is significantly smoother than both stock and OTT. No more surging, and every shift is smooth as butter with quick downshifts when needed. Mpg is about the same on the streets, since I'm in a super hilly area and haven't hit too many highways yet. I will be giving another update when I get more miles under my belt.

At the end of it all, I couldn't be more happy with this tune and the fun it's made it to drive my truck again! Thanks again Dave!

And if anyone in the Denver area is looking to tune their '22, I can get you sorted out. I have some credits leftover from making the switch, and can get you figured out with Dave's help!

Chris @4run4yu came in with his really nice 2018 4Runner. We got him flashed to the new Pro-9.0 He is really enjoying the power and response. No more gear hunting and he was amazed at how smooth the shifting is now. He will report back with MPG numbers after a couple tanks ran through it. It was good meeting you. You have done a great job with your 4Runner.

I'm now running 9.0. Sport throttle sensitivity. Definitely more responsive. It gets up and goes now. Shifts are smoooooth. I enjoy driving my 4r even more. Not sure if fuel mileage increased, since I can't stay off the gas!

Do you think you have a good pre-flash baseline of MPG? Finish having your fun with the gas pedal, but after that, I nominate you to do the 4runner community a service and get some post-flash MPG data:p

In California, how does a tune affect smog testing? Do folks flash back to OEM prior to testing then re-flash the tune after?

Just flashed my truck with v9.0. Last version was smooth already but this is super butter and the power is more consistent even at higher elevations.

You will pass smog with the tune. We have tested multiple trucks. Customers have reported back passing smog test with no issue.

I had Michael Peratoner (GS Mobile Tuning) install the PRO+XT in my rig about a month ago. What a difference. I gained about 2 MPG on the freeway. Don't ask about city MPG. I'm having too much fun launching from traffic lights. It is almost too sensitive when taking off from a stop. But I will take that, considering what a slug it was on the factory software. The transmission shifts like butter and doesn't hunt for gears like before. The +XT tune will hold a gear and allow more pedal input before making a downshift on an uphill grade. I like that.
