Hey guys! I'm picking up a new Venture in August/September on the opposite side of the country (Wisconsin) and road tripping/camping with it and my dog back to where I live (Alaska). I'm curious if anyone has any road trip or car camping essentials they would recommend for the 4runner?

I’m no help here as I’m just getting into car camping myself. It sounds like an awesome trip though.

You going to sleep in the vehicle or tent it? Sounds like it will be a great trip and congrats on your purchase.

Thanks! I'm planning on eventually getting a roof top tent but for now I'm on a budget. I want to just sleep in it since I hate taking the time to set up a tent.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
    Sounds like a fun trip.

You might check out this thread for some ideas if you plan on sleeping in the 4Runner on the drive back home.

I'd rather just stop and stay in a Holiday Inn Express myself. Comfortable beds, a selection of pillows, and breakfast in the morning.

I got offered a job in Alaska and turned it down - like an idiot. At the time I was working in Iraq making good $. The Alaska job would've meant a pay cut plus relocating to Anchorage. I wasn't ready for that move then.

Best wishes and congrats. Do you have to get special permission to drive through Canada I assume? Here in Michigan we are told non-essential travel is not allowed in Canada. We cannot even fish in boat in Canadian water (not touching land) just merely fish in the Lake Erie/Detroit River in Canadian waterways.

Found this. OP may will have to be tested for covid and being vaccinated would be helpful. https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/answers/foreign-transit-land

I am vaccinated but if you live in Alaska you can travel though. You need a covid test and you need to get out ASAP pretty much without interacting with anyone in Canada. They have arrested US citizen for stopping at tourist places in the past I believe. It’s possible the restrictions may change soon though
