Is this an OEM Toyota head unit? The number is 7018B. It doesn't look like a genuine Toyota part, but when its turned on it shows a Toyota logo.

    What do you think?

    GPT 5.2 says:

    "
It’s not a Toyota OEM head unit.

A few tells in your photo:

    • No Toyota/Lexus part number or OEM faceplate layout (Toyota OEM units typically have OEM-labeled hard keys/knobs and a model/part label).

    • The UI (big colorful tiles: FM / Music / Movie / Explorer / Bluetooth / AUX / Setting) is the common generic aftermarket interface.

    • The small text on the lower bezel appears to read “7018B” — that’s a very common generic 7" double-DIN “7018B” multimedia receiver (often sold under many rebrands like Podofo / Hikity / EinCar / etc.).
The Toyota logo you see at boot is also common on these units because the startup logo is user-selectable (people set it to Toyota, Honda, etc.).

How to confirm quickly: pull the unit forward and look for a sticker on the chassis (usually shows “7018B”, voltage, wiring diagram), or check Settings → About / Version for the model string."

Thank you. Didn't think it was but the Toyota logo on boot was what had me puzzled on it. :)

    Oooh look, another mod.....
A lot of headunits (including older model Toyota 4Runners) will let you change the boot menu screen-logo. You just need a flash drive and some photo editing skills to get it done.

You could have used your human experience or intuition to ignore this thread or answer the question simply instead of offloading a simple thought to the Water Guzzler 8000. (or whatever you want to call it)

OP could have punched it in themselves if they wanted that.

Friggen facts. The "chat gpt says" shit is going to ruin this forum.

We don't need AI to tell us a damn touch screen didn't come standard in 2nd gen 4Runners. (Nothing against you OP)

    It's a $33 aftermarket head unit: https://www.amazon.com/Double-Din-Car-Stereo-Carplay-Android-Bluetooth-Hands-Free/dp/B0BGR8FS29/

It was apparently $55 eight years ago, having dropped in price due to technology advancement:

Toyota had the technology in the early 1990s but didn't bring it stateside like GM did:

I took the OP to mean if the unit was transplanted from a newer Toyota model, which is a fair question as some OEM head units from a decade ago looked similar:

I hadn't thought of that aspect, and that is a good point. I'm not aware (even with my extremely limited 2nd gen knowledge) of anyone doing that swap, but I'm sure as I post this someone will feverishly delve to the darkest corners of the internet to prove me wrong. Which, is great, helps the forum!

I will absolutely admit however I just get a little insane when I see people reposting AI responses.

Q: Why do people hate AI slop?

GPT says: Short version? Because it feels cheap, lazy, and everywhere.

Haha Lol, reading that part again, that ain't exactly a "quick" way to look. Removing the HU (or even pulling it forward) in a 2nd Gen requires you to remove the glovebox, lower paneling under the steering wheel, the panel below the ashtray near the floor, the rubber boots for the climate controls so you can pop that bezel off, take out a screw behind that, then FINALLY pull off the trim piece to remove the HU. I guess ChatGPT just never has actually tried this before. If thats how I confirm quickly, that will take me at least half an hour! Lol. :D
