Like the title says, is there any accessory, package, or option you regret NOT getting on your T4R?

Personally, I love mine, but I kinda regret not getting the Sliding Rear Cargo Tray.

I sort of wish I had gotten silver instead of mgm, but it's pretty much a toss-up as to which looks best. Silver doesn't show dirt as much.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Third row. Not because I want a third row but because the second row folds down without the bottoms of the second row seats swinging up. It's a much cleaner way to get the back of your 4Runner flat. It also gets you flat without the bump in the middle of the back like the most basic back end that I ended up getting. You'd lose a bit of vertical space, but it would have been a fair tradeoff for me to get a genuinely flat back and the lack of second row seat swing-up.

I could also see myself using the sliding cargo tray since getting into hobby grade RC 4X4 trucks, but I'd still prefer the third row. That sliding cargo tray would be nice, though. If I couldn't have the third row, then I wish I at least had the cargo tray. I'd use it less as a tray for moving cargo back and forth and more of a table for getting my RC truck set up without bending over the rear bumper. It's not horrible or anything to bend over the rear bumper, but it would have been nice regardless.

I’m not sure if it was available as OEM for 21 but the console safe shown as a 22 option looks like something worth the money. I carry a gun and on rare occasion I need to leave it in my truck.

I suppose getting the SR5 instead of the Off-Road. Not because I needed or wanted the additional OR features, but because I would be one of the cool guys on the forum. ;)

It's not really an option but I wish Toyota was putting the rear locker in the SR5. They offer it now on the Tacoma SR5. I don't need/want the crawl control or MTS (does anybody?) but having the rear locker would be nice.

I agree, seriously doubt I'd ever need it but an SR5 with the locker and manual transfer case would be perfect. I don't care for the other stuff the OR comes with. That's why I didn't buy one. I had the choice at the time. Would have been only about a $1000 more.

I wish AWD like on the limited would be available on the TRD's as an option. Maybe besides the question..

I swore I would not purchase another black painted vehicle. Shows dirt and absorbs the sun.. yet here I am. Other than that it's great! and besides all I need is Green and Brown spray paint and it turns into woodland camo pattern.

Well all my wishes are not available from Toyota.

    1. I wish I have 3rd row seats option on my TRD ORP and TRD Pro. I know many hates 3rd row but me and my family is small (I'm 5'5"), so we fit on 3rd row. Very handy to have just in case. Used few times for office lunch outs.

    2. Full-time 4wd. Must have for CO winters. It's a pain in the A to switch back and forth.

    3. Manual 4wd selector on SR5 and Limited (along with #2 Full-time 4wd)

    4. Rear locker on SR5 and Limited. Even better front and rear lockers across the board.

    5. Sway bar disconnect option. On and off option for Offroad use. (NOT HYDRAULIC KDSS..!!)

No, my 2019 SR5 has more than I can figure out what to do with!

MAYBE, a manual transfer case shifter! (I'm kinda old fashioned!)

2022 TRD Pro wheels are wider as TRD Offroad wheels?
I really wish my 2021 TRD Pro wheels are wider as my TRD ORP wheels so I could fit 285s.

Sliding cargo tray. I wanted the sunroof but I never use it and they were not available together due to Toyota's weird packaging. Also wish I got Barcelona red to set it apart from all the other Superwhite Runners.

The rear locker is the biggest upgrade the TRD trims get. Putting it on the SR5 would not be smart on Toyota's part.

But, it's only $2k more for an off-road. If you want the locker, get it.

    Don't be jealous. ;)

    You can get aftermarket disconnects.

Why would I be jealous for not having an unreliable part? LoooL..

I've heard rumors where Toyota thinking of an electronic option for KDSS. I think Toyota is well aware of its poor reliability on KDSS and want to correct it.

I've only seen disconnect sway bar option on Wranglers without sway bar disconnect factoryoption. My buddy's JK has one, that came with RockKrawler lift kit.. Never seen for 4runner.

It's good to take safety measures, you don't want something that requires keys, guns are for emergency situations and need fast access to them. We are hoping that we never have to use them in our life time. You never know. That's why I have mine always in the 4R on hand reach, taking it out if the vehicle get serviced.

May be off topic. Do you have a reliable option for full size? (Not happy with compact. Poor accuracy unless more effort is used)
Or any holster can be drawn while sitting? I've seen some elastic type of holster that go around the body. Wonder if they work or not as the ones clip on to pants?

You've made it quite clear that you don't want KDSS, and that's fine, yet you continue to claim that it is unreliable and prone to problems, but have offered no proof other than "internet posts". I get that you wouldn't have it, but don't get why you keep trying to convince others not to get KDSS when thousands of 4Rs have been running it problem-free for many years.

I think it's plenty reliable until people mess with it. Most of the failures I've heard of (only a handful) have been due to a lack of maintenance. Some have probably been due to people tampering with it. I'm at 63K and I probably abuse my 4Runner more than 90% of owner and it's still fine.

I do agree that the next generation KDSS will probably be even better.

But, I bet if Toyota put it in the PRO like they were supposed to, all of the PRO guys would be raving about how awesome it is. Instead, all they got was a shock upgrade.

There was a guy selling them on another forum, IIRC.

So, is it not smart that they are doing it on the Tacoma SR5?

The Tacoma has way more trim options than the 4Runner, so I can't really say.

The point is that the locker is a selling point for upgrading to the OR, so offering it on a lower trim would be a poor choice for Toyota.

Also, like I mentioned earlier, an OR is hardly any more expensive than an SR5. So, there's really no reason not to buy one if you want the locker.
