Is my truck connected to the manufacturer?

I have a 2020 4Runner and I was wondering; does the truck have the ability to connect to Toyota? Can Toyota connect to the truck?

I understand that through cell phones, there is connectivity.

But I mean independently, without use of a paired cell phone.

    Thank you.

If you have the SOS button, yes, they are watching….always watching. I would imagine it’s not only toyota, but any of their, assignees, affiliates, etc. Like friendly insurance companies that want to see your driving habits and give you the best rate possible…for them. Or whatever low-bidder company Toyota subcontracts to manage their connectivity services and data.

My 2021 had a warning sticker on the overhead console stating they are watching. And a number to call to deactivate any connectivity.

I’m not sure when they started including this independent connectivity. It has it’s own sim card, antenna, and cellular connection.

That is also how they can sell you remote start on as subscription service, because when you push the button, you are basically asking them to start the car, and they start it remotely from their servers.

I believe they started with the 2020 model. My 2019 has zero connectivity, the SOS button does nothing. I believe before 2020 they were using 3G modules and that service ended for many Toyota models as of November last year, including pre-2020 4Runners.

Akio Toyoda is going to use the Big Brother tech in your 4Runner to probe your anus.

    I know from personal experience.

    And I liked it.

We’ll, that’s a forward thinking idea! Don’t say it too loud though.

In another 10 years we’ll look back at jokes like this and wonder how in world everybody is ok with the retractable, self-lubricating and heated “health telemetry” probes that pop out of the seat-bottoms.

I can see it now. The young whippersnappers will just laugh at us old guys complaining that the Safety Sense 5.0 anal probes aren’t worth the “automatic drive-to-hospital” feature, or health insurance discounts, or adaptive HVAC adjustment features, or whatever other convenience integrated butt probes can bring.

I know, right? I'd have Akio Toyoda waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up in my butthole any day of the week. He's so good at what he does!

Come to think of it, my 2020 had the same sticker. Yeah, I don't like Big Brother watching.

Someone was just telling me that in a conversation. Can't imagine that being implemented. Ford would open itself up to lawsuits. Can you imagine Ford reposting a car and having it hit a pedestrian on the way back to the dealership?

It'll look like this without the tow rig. The lender will be smirking at the screen, real-time, watching you chase after their property yelling "wait!!!".

imagine the possibilities when falling asleep behind a wheel, a little anal poke and you are good for another 30 minutes or so. No need for a funky dash light looking like coffee to take a break.

You worry about some "Big Brother" in your automobile. But you carry a locator device in your pocket that broadcasts your location to a network 24 hours a day even when that device is turned off.

Call your mother on your drive home lately?

You're not quoting a post, so if you're referring to the OP, there is no reference in the op about a "worry" of some Big Brother. He simply asked if it was connected. Then in post #14 yesterday he specifically stated he didn't think big brother was watching. It seems you only read the thread subject header and chimed in. Nice.

If you're referring to my post in the thread, I have not called my mother lately, she died 19 years ago.

You seem relaxed. Is it because you don’t carry a phone, or because you don’t worry anymore about your every move being recorded by who knows who?

Oh yeah. Don’t think I don’t know it.

Smart phones are just surveillance devices that happen to make phone calls.

A sad reality of modern life.

I'm just going to say that I loved my daily remote probing by Akio Toyoda today, and I'd be happy to give myself over to him any time I sit in my 4Runner.
