The used car marketplace is localized like housing/real estate and everything else, but trends still come through. Guy on Twitter was saying today:

The average age of the cars people drive is way up relative to ten years ago. What a shock, money printer goes BRRRRRR and trillions of dollars later, inflation persists.

 

It's a two way street. Toyota and Honda still make low $20k models in sedans and CUVs that suits 95% of the market just fine. The fact that people keep signing up for 60-100k vehicles on 60-96 months loans is their own doing.

 

I get notes on my '91 Pickup every few months. Usually when I drive it to work. Last month I was in Boone, NC for a quick getaway. I was at an old general store and an old man stopped and asked if that was my Toyota outside. No idea how he knew it belonged to me, maybe he was asking everyone that passed by? I told him it was and we spent the next 30 minutes talking about Toyota trucks. He lamented his last one was replaced by a "Damn Ford" after a tree fell on and totaled it. He offered to buy mine, or trade some land for it. It was tempting but I had to pass on his offer. One of these days I'll get an offer that will be hard to refuse.

Back to the "note on vehicle" thing. This wasn't actually a note, but a mailer we received. So do the 'note' things happen? They do, I had a note put on my '68 SS Camaro, but I have a kind of hard time believing a note gets placed on a "garden variety" 4Runner, that's just me. BTW, how many of those mailers were sent out? Almost forgot... Happy Thanksgiving!

 

Must not be a thing down here, cuz there's a million for sale around Texas (I'm sure outside the state also). I've had one person ask at a cars n coffee when I said my year and mileage. But that was just in conversation, not blindly out of the blue.

 

I didn't think it was possible, but I was wrong (once again!). You can get the base model Corolla (with no options) for $24k

 

I cant see why anyone would to this for a 5th gen unless there was something very specific about it. You can go to any used lot, marketplace, craigslist, etc and find any variety of 5th gen you want. I see them in my neighborhood constantly driven by soccer moms. They definitely are in the family SUV market and not just some niche 4x4 anymore so I can't see why anyone would be stalking you to buy your truck. Maybe if it was a 1st/2nd/3rd gen...

No disrespect to the fifth gen it's just that they're still so new and everywhere I don't see why anyone would have trouble finding one and have to resort to asking people on the street

 

Yep, and the corolla cross is only 1k more and as far as I know, no known major issues.

We can only blame inflation so far before we see with our own eyes how many of the same people complaining about cost of living also thumb their noses at the affordable Toyotas and Hondas. It was the case before Nov 2024 and it is still the case now.

 

I had a note on mine a few years ago asking if I wanted to sell my wheels and tires which were on the truck.. yeah sure.. bring your own blocks?

 

That's what happens with those "1 off" wheels! You should have got 2 sets made right away.

 

IT was a nice set of American Racing with K02s.. easily to find. I dunno I guess some people have no idea where to buy anything.

 

Used 5th generation 4runners disappeared off the lots around here. I saw new 6th generation 4runner with a brand new dent. I bet they are excited. It could be a salesmen trying to lure you into a trade, but there's the internet to find anything. Make sure they don't air tag you and steal it later.
