Hello, community – glad to be here with my first 4Runner, a 2023 TRD Pro!

Is it me, or is it impossible to see anything in the center console area once the map lights are off?

What are you doing for what I’ve heard referred to as the “overhead shifter light”?

    Thank you.

A lot of us have upgrade all the interior lights (and some exterior) to LED's:

I agree the LEDs are much better, but that won’t help you in the dark without the lights turned on. I guess I just don’t need to have light on the console all the time.

Thanks for that. I already have all interior LEDs, I’m asking specifically about a small, dedicated, always on when the head lights are on, above the shifter/center console that won’t interfere with vision while driving at night.

Okay, I just checked my 4Runner and I know what you're talking about. I can turn up/down the brightness by using the dimmer scroller to the left of the steering wheel. If you have it at max brightness and it isn't bright enough....I don't see how you can make it brighter (without doing major surgery to the dashboard).

For those that don’t know, there’s an exceedingly small and dim light between the map lights that comes on with the headlights. It’s so dim that it easily escapes notice.

Even with the instrument light brightness set to full as Borracho Loco suggests, it’s still uselessly dim. All I can offer to @KineticSunset by way of solution is a USB cigarette lighter adapter and a tiny USB light.

Both brightness and color are adjustable.

@Captain Spalding - Yes! That 1st picture is exactly what I’m talking about; that little light in the center of the overhead array!

Believe it or not, mine is half the size of what’s in your picture.

I’ve gone through every page of the owners manual (that’s where so saw it referred to as the “shifter light”, but other than that reference) there was zero info. Man.. I must have googled it 100 ways to Sunday and got nothing useful.

I do like that tiny USB light, but instead of the cigarette lighter port there’s two side-by-side vertical USB ports - which means the light will be shining either left or right instead of down.

    Thanks for jumping in!

My 2019 did not have LED interior lighting installed from the factory. One of my first mods was LED interior lighting as well as the two exterior puddle lights.
I recently had to replace the passenger map light LED, and had the overhead console removed to do so. While I knew about the shifter light, I had to be in a really dark place to even see the light it produced on the shifter. Which makes me wonder if there is an available LED for the shifter light...

I bought my 2018 SR5 approximately two years and I do a lot of zero dark 30 driving out into the Badlands and I never ever even noticed that little tiny light there. :anonymous: I went out and checked just now and yes it’s there. Holy heck still learning. I don’t think it’s bright enough to light up console :anonymous:

I would like to change my door trim lights to bright led, but heard a few stories of people destroying the body control module.

I have never noticed that little light overhead. I will have to look. Do your trucks mirror switch and dash dimmer light come on? I cant recall if it was that way when I bought it. Neither of mine light up.
