If both of you are hovering around 6 figures a year salary, you are in a different tax bracket than the average normal consumer in america.
There is practically nobody in america who makes $40-$70k a year that can afford two Range Rovers in the driveway at the same time.
The reason i say this, is because people who make $40k-$70k a year cant drive vehicles that depreciate $20k in one year of ownership.

I really liked the 2006-2010 Range Rover sport supercharged. The lines and interior were great but spending $80k on one would have been a huge price tag to swallow. I ended up with a 2008 Urban Runner. The looks package fulfilled my needs and it was half the price. Today on craigslist or marketplace you can find the 2008-2010 Range Rover sports for $2500-$6000. The first two years the value drops in half. The resale is so poor that no logical person penny pinching can sanely afford this type of vehicle.

You could have left out the words “penny pinching” from your last sentence.

I bought my ‘24 after owning a 2000 Gen3 and over a year of research and consideration. No way I will give it up. I can make more money in other ways.

I had an acquaintance that got his S/C LR stolen out of his garage, along with a big flat screen, jewelry, and a bunch of cash.
One of the thieves was caught driving it around town and ratted out the others. The LR was so badly damaged that the Insurance company just totaled it out. The jewelry and cash was not recovered.

Sorry, what was that you said? I was busy lighting my cigar with a c-note. Listen. Your generalization that once people reach a certain tax bracket they have no problem “throwing money away” is patently foolish and unfair. It borders on naive. Now, would you please pass the Grey Poupon?

ETA: I think the first time I pissed you off was in this thread.

Put way too much money into my rig to justify selling it anytime soon. I am probably $40K into it in additional parts, let alone all the labor and love.

Early in my career I made the ill advised decision to purchase a Range Rover for my wife when she became pregnant with our first. It was a beautiful car and drove wonderfully. I remember once driving it 300mi without taking a brake. The seats were so comfortable. I remember getting a call that one of the air shocks had went out (the truck was 1k out of warranty at this time) and it was going to cost $1500 to replace one air shock. Ended up replacing them all and got rid of it soon after as it kept having issues. Lesson learned. And I’m in a fortunate tax bracket. Driving a 4Runner provides me the peace of mind that I’m not going to come out to find the fenders sitting on the wheels because the shocks exploded, or the vehicle not being able to shift into gear on account of a sensor failing…. or any of the other nonsense that Range Rover put us through.

Hahaha, I had a similar situation. Against my better judgement, I bought my wife (now ex wife) a new LR Discovery SE in 2002. I begged her to let me get her a Honda Pilot, 4Runner, Pathfinder, etc. We ended up ditching that money pit within 10-11 months. In addition to constant warranty work for little nagging items, it needed new pads and rotors at 7k miles and new tires at 10k miles. But yeah, the seats, leather interior, and overall comfort factor were light years beyond anything Japanese at the time.

Ur not alone…..Ours was a 2011 Range Rover HSE. I was just finishing residency and surprised my wife with it in the garage one day. Still the smoothest and best riding suv I’ve ever owned.
She’s currently wearing out an Escalade at the moment and I’m hoping the kinks with the LX600 powertrain are worked out sooner than later.
    Im sticking with my 4Runner.

I like the looks of the Rivians. But it seems to me that the Rivian, Teslas, and Lucid types of the automotive world are always looking to make the most basic vehicle functions completely software dependent. Even if there is no economical or functional reason to do so.

Combine that with modern piss-poor software development practices that simply push updates that can screw the whole thing up at any time…no thanks. I’m sure AI coding will soon show up as riduculous problems. You can bet the over-seas software developers these manufacturers hire (and the few in house folks) are being pushed hard to “leverage” AI to develop code. Which is all fine and good if there are enough people around that can validate the code, but that’s a big “if” when pressure to use AI is to reduce staffing.
