Made a big mistake a few weeks ago. Had a Ford edge that was 4 years old and I stated getting antsy about such an old car.
Since about 80% of the cars look alike these days wanted something different. Wound up looking at 4Runners and Tacomas. Both were appealing since they are trucks and a little higher than most of the other vehicles running around except for full size pick ups.
I really don't plan on doing off-roading but after reading a bunch of reviews that indicated the 4Runner was an old design that didn't have all the electronic junk that is on new cars, got poor gas mileage and road like a truck I was interested.
My wife and I drove both the 4Runner and the Tacoma. Liked the 4Runner a little better, plus it had more leg room in the rear when the front seats are in the driving position. We're both 5'10" with long legs so that was important with back seat passengers.
Found a 4Runner with the right colors, white exterior and sand seats. Went thru the typical car buying activity....trying to beat sales folks at their game...and drove one off the lot.
It's a new 2020 so it has a lot of the new electronics which we probably won't ever use. Never had a new car manual that had so much junk in it. Takes 3 pages to tell you how to set up the door locks. Still working my way thru the book.
Biggest concern now is we have plans to pick up some friends to go to dinner Monday. We have no problem getting in and out without running boards. The woman who will be going is probably 5 feet tall. Might throw a stool in back just in case she can't climb up.
So far happy with new vehicle.

a car is old after four years? that's just getting good and broken in! But seriously, good move on ditching the Edge for the 4 Runner. I recently came over from the Chevy SUV community (where a vehicle DOES start falling apart after four years...) and I love our 4Runner for the looks, the ride and the legendary durability. It is a basic design that they don't mess with often. One of the reasons that I jumped on a 2019 instead of waiting on the '20s to come out is the electronics....'19's don't have all the lane-departure stuff etc that the 20's have...I'm older and still believe in situational awareness and controlling the vehicle from the front left seat :) . Welcome!

Welcome. Keep an eye out on Craigslist for running boards. A lot of us get rid of the OEM ones for cheap.

Just in case anyone was wondering.....The short lady said "no problem" and pulled herself up with no problem.
I guess I'll hold off on running boards for a while.

My wife said it was easier to get in my lifted 4Runner than my un-lifted FJ Cruiser...she's kinda short too.
