I recently had a somewhat alarming experience with my 2006 4runner.. my gearshift was stuck in park..but I solved that problem using the release tab...but when put it in reverse or drive..it would not move and my RPM hand isn't moving and on top of that my brakelight don't work and my ABS light is on. Can anyone stir me in the right direction

Yes! Fix it. It's a man made machine and will require attention from time to time

I'm just a random dude on the net so take this for what it is worth (nothing).

Sounds like you have an electrical problem that is affecting several things. Might be a good idea to take it to an actual dealer and let them find and fix the problem.

It sounds like something electrical or computer related. The only thing I would try is to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for an hour or so (not really sure how much time is necessary), and see if the problem is cleared.

You can also reset the ECU faster by removing BOTH battery cables and holding them together. I have done this without issue, but I'm sure some people will not be comfortable with intentionally creating a short circuit. With the battery disconnected entirely, there shouldn't be any risk of damage, though.

If that doesn't fix it, there could be damaged wiring somewhere, or a number of other issues. You can inspect all of the wiring, checking that all of the plugs are securely plugged in. I would especially look at the connections to the transmission.

    This could take awhile.

Do you have access to a diagnostic tool?

    That sucks!

Do you trust the place enough to have them figure it out? What kind of work did they do?
