    Hey there Fam, newbie here.

Heres an album above (or pictures below!) of what im talking about,

    https://imgur.com/a/v25I8R6

First picture is just my Pro with my girlfriend hanging off the rack, next is the new prinsu rack I installed today, the third picture is from another user here showing the White Plastic Inserts on roof rack attachment points, and, the 4th picture is showing one of my mounting points missing those plastic parts. Long story short, they broke off during the removal of my pro rack.

I found this spare part https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~bracket~roof~rack~rear~63187-35020.html and ordered two of them, issue is, I cant tell if they come with the White parts (which are what I need I need t the screws to bite), and need to remove my headliner or not to install them, and I don't think im good enough to pull the headliner if needed....

Last but not least, the detached pro rack. EDIT: I cant sell the rack yet because I need to reach the minimum required post amounts, check the market place at a later date!

TLDR: I broke the white plastic bits for one of the four brackets, and they appear to have fallen into the headliner. Now I don't know what to do, kinda nervous that I wont be able to fix this or I ordered the right replacement part for the plastic white bits. Any help appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum!

I can't help you with your problem, unfortunately. I thought I would mention that there is a minimum amount of posts required before attempting to sell things here.

Good luck with your roof rack installation! Hopefully someone here will have some good advice for you.

That sucks. I had one side drop down and had to remove some of the sealing to get it out. Factory bolts were on so damn tight with red loctite

I think you can just reach in and re-install the clip. The new ones does include the white tubes. Either old one or new ones will work.

Datonaviolet YOU'RE MY HERO. I was stalking your old posts (check your DM's lol) and that's what encouraged me to make an account and start posting. I bought these https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~bracket~roof~rack~front~63185-42020.html …. but, do you know if I can drop them in from the top? or do I need to remove the headliner to replace the plastic parts from underneath the roof?

I actually never had this issue. There’s a procedure on how to remove these bolts so the clips don’t fall off

which corner clip fell off ? was it the driver side rear? if so, just open tailgate and list on the rubber moulding. you'll need a panel remover tool and pop out the headliner clip. but i think you may need to remove some plastic too.

Yeah I saw that after I made the mistake, impact hammer was a no no but there was so much locktite on the bolt I didn't really have a choice. The clip that fell off was the rear driver side bracket

Okay good to know! Not the end of the world I hope, do you know how difficult it is to remove the headliner? Is it a safe install / uninstall, or is it something left to a dealership?

Personally I never removed the headliner on the 4runner. But it looks simple enough. if your able to install the rack, headliner removal should be simple.

To be clear though, I can still access this area, do I still need to tear it down? Corner headliner.jpg

The clip you need to access is somewhere on the other side of the head liner. You’ll need to remove that plastic area and drop the head liner. Once that is done, you should be able to find the fallen clip and re-install it.

That’s suck Scott. That pic is from my install showing the white tubes. There might be other info on removing headliner on the other Toyota.org web site. You are not the first this happened to. I cannot help not sure about removal of liner.

why not go ask a dealership for the part numbers? especially since you have 1 part number already you can ask them about it and see what else comes with it.

I just installed a Front Runner rack on my 4 Runner the other day, and when I was doing it, I imagined that this could happen as I was removing the OEM rack. The problem is the red loctite on the bolts and the nut clip moves and wiggles as you ratchet out the bolts. I just tried my best to keep everything from rocking back and forth with the ratchet, and it all worked out. Ok, having said all that, what to do? If you go to you tube you will see how various installs removed the headliner. At the back of the truck, Victory has one for their camera relocate kit, for example. Front Runner has one that removes the front section for their full length rack, where you need to drill holes in the roof. As someone said already, just be careful, and use a proper panel removal tool so that you don’t damage anything. All those panels pop off, and it’s not a difficult job to fix the problem. Good luck BoldBrass!
Shit happens all the time, no big deal!

That’s it, fiftyxp, but I think he has the part, it’s just rattling around somewhere inside the headliner, likely right below where it became detached. I’m not sure how these parts are attached but once you pull the headliner down a bit, it should possible to hold it in place while someone threads a bolt from up top.

That stinks that you went from the worst OEM rack to the worse aftermarket rack, but on the bright side it’s pretty simple to partially drop the headliner to access that area. The interiors on these things are put together like legos inside, super simple to disassemble/reassemble. Where are you located, I might be able to help you out?

haha, bummer to hear you dont like the prinsu racks. Ive heard they are pretty decent and I wasn't prepared to drill new holes. To each their own though. Thats comforting to hear in regards to whats underneath the headliner. once the parts come in this shouldnt be too difficult of a fix

Perfect! the part itself broke when removing the factory screws (way to much locktite to salvage the plastic bits) but I have two replacements on the way. Good to know im not crazy here, I was hoping I could find those plastic parts separately and just drop them in from the top but getting it up into the headliner is just as easy I guess

I opened mine up to take a look. It’s doable. I just removed two liner clips, hanger clip has 10mm bolt, and the plastic just pulls off.
