Well I opted for the 83 Sportster because I want something small. I believe it was the last year for the Ironhead. So they got all the bugs worked out of the model being built since 57 I think. And it is the 1,000cc. Has new charging system and battery, tires are great, claims it shifts and doesn’t leak oil. He has a couple so he knows what he is doing. Just not enough room for it. And he threw in a helmet/jacket. He rides it a lot and it’s never let him down...And I can slap antique tags on it and roll without inspection...

New law going into effect in two weeks. Absolutely NO cellphone use while driving a vehicle. I put mine in airplane mode a lot now after my roaming adventure in the carribean...

Just finished fabbing/ mounting up the seat, it came with four. Had a metal plate before nice and low but this one is pretty expensive I would presume, it has Harley stamps on it..It handles great. After all I’m use to the GSXR that just has grips bolted to the front forks....VIN is clean..tank is black with blue flake. Kind of a midnight blue...Have a battery tender coming when the battery is unhooked you have to polarize the generator.C1432E12-BDAE-4FBC-822B-3B6022F839AD.jpg

Don't forget to apply the brakes at least 8 football fields ahead of your stop. An now you need to buy a signature Harley back pack to hold at least a few quarts of oil and your tool set....:D :anonymous:

It doesn’t burn or drip a drop of oil. And with the new charging/ignition/rectifier system, newer S&S carb, I don’t think I have anything to worry about. I’m ready for the Capital Beltway, I like to play in traffic...All American, tagged and insured!!

But yes I noticed today it has a lot of stopping distance. I think the rotors are stainless steel or chromed so it doesn’t “bite”. And the front brake doesn’t work the brake light so applying even pressure with the front and the rear discs is necessary...

If you like David Mann, take a look at David Uhl. He has some really great stuff that he has created using photos from Harley Davidson's archives. I have 5 of his signed and numbered "Women of Harley" prints that have really jumped in value. Better returns than my 401K. https://www.uhlstudios.com/

Very nice! I stayed up all night watching old Easy Rider DVD’s that were givin to me. That’s were the pics are. Have a couple real important ones. Like the Hells Angel that worked for the Greatful Dead. And now I know how to haul a deer on the back. And it’s got these guys with side cars. One of my future mods to haul my woman!! There riding like 1939’s...

I've been looking at this thread intermittently and I can't decide if you're fucking around or not. I think you're not.

"It handles great" must be a statement made proportionate to your riding experience, because no one in the history of time ever uttered those words about a 40 year old HD-turned -chopper and especially not after owning a GSXR. If you want to verify the level of handling, ride it on out here to maybe the best road in America, CA36, and we'll take a spin. I'll wait for you at the end of the 140 mile epic stretch.

I have to agree with you on the handling. Apes and the raked springer front end pretty much insure that handling will not be great. The best handling HD I ever rode was the FXR framed models, and they were not in the same class as lot of other bike brands. On the other hand, HD is not as much about handling as it is about style, following and just plain cool factor.

I have not been on CA 36 that I remember. We took Highway 1 from Olympic Peninsula to San Luis Obispo and took some side roads so maybe I did. I have done the Coronado Trail in Eastern Az., Road to the Sun, the Blue Ridge Parkway from Front Royal, Va to Ashville, NC, Tail of the Dragon, Moonshiner 28, Beartooth Pass, Utah 12, Mt. Evans, Co., all the paved 10,000 Ft. Passes in Colorado (22) twice, Pikes Peak 4 times, Black Hills, SD numerous times, and Million Dollar Highway more times than I can count so if CA 36 is the best it must really be something and needs to be on my bucket list.

Yeah ... 36 is extreme NorCal.... runs from Fortuna on the coast to Red Bluff in the central valley. 140 miles of nonstop curves. Starts out in the coast redwoods, then starts ascending mountain passes, then canyon carving, then essentially a high desert section... it's like every good Calif road rolled into one.

I've ridden in every US state except Hawaii and Rhode Island and done the roads you reference except for Coronado Trail... my '18 DL1000 has 15k on it already... and Hwy 36 ranks all supreme!
