For those interested, I found this procedure on a non-4Runner forum, and it worked on my '22 ORP. I did not find anything like this posted on this forum before in my search.

Step 8 is to do the Hokey Pokey and turn yourself around, right?

    JK. Thanks for posting this.

I've always been impressed that toyota built this in to their vehicles. My 06 T4R was able to reprogram keys and run AC diagnostics ( amongst other things) with various key positions, pedal presses and button presses.

Does this mean the Drivers side door will no longer automatically unlock once you approach the vehicle within 6FT?

I’m going to try this. I think my 4Runner locked and unlocked itself a dozen times the other day when I was washing it. I don’t know why this isn’t an option in the settings menu.

Yup, now you will just be able to use the key fob buttons like normal.

What I have bot tested is whether or not it will start by sensing the key in the vehicle. You might need to hold the FOB up to the start button so it can read the RFID chip.

So this does indeed disable the sensors in the car from transmitting signal to "sense" the key. You need to place the FOB up to the dash near the start button to read the RFID chip, at which point you are able to start the vehicle. This means of course that you can also lock the key in the vehicle if you are used to setting dow somewhere in the interior while driving.

This is a deal breaker. I sometimes leave the smart key in the cup holder.
    Thanks for testing further.

I’m not sure what your try8 g to accomplish, but I frequently “shut off” my FOB. Press and hold the lock button, press the unlock button twice. The little red light on FOB blinks twice (I think). To get in the 4Runner, I need to use the key or unlock button (might be twice). My purpose is to save the battery, so I just use the unlock button. Hop in, toss the keys to one of the open spots and operate as usual. We already had to replace the battery in my wife’s Rav and it’s only been just over a year, she doesn’t shut hers off.

You could remove the battery but then have to use the physical key to unlock. The RFID chip is not battery dependent for starting the vehicle. I am not sure if there's a way to permanently disable the key from transmitting though

I assume your motivation here is to just save the battery

I traded a 2017 manual taco that had a key.

I wonder if you can buy a chipped physical key with the fob built in... basically a non smart key, but which is the style of the physical key integrated into the smart key.

Yeah I leave mine in cup holder also. Especially if I am just washing it or if back out of garage to load/unload stuff.
It would be difficult for me to break that habit

You will laugh but my buddy had his Chevy pickup stolen at a Ford plant doing electrical work. They stole 10 trucks that day many brands. Since getting another truck he places a bear trap on the seat covered by blanket while in rougher neighborhoods.

Let’s just say he caught something one night. While extreme for sure he still has truck. There is not much the cops can do here either if they catch the thief. Why bother they get let out of jail a day or two later and back at it again. What a joke

I watch marketplace from the States and and enjoy that program. Why does the Canadian government just simply stop doing business with Nigeria. Or any ship with a Nigerian float plan just be banned from entering Canadian waters.

Car thefts are up all over and sadly they are only increasing as our economy worsens each day in the States and Canada.

It’s ashame we work hard to buy something nice and have to worry about these thugs.

You know how behind the car industry is.

Your iphone code can not be broken in..

Why can not they have a key code to start the vehicle that can not be broken into.
All what you have to do is store the hash of the key in the computer memory. and hash the code keyed in and compare the two.
Even if someone have access to computer memory, they will only get the hash code and not the key. This is Cryptography 101...

Something tells me that the car companies want your car stolen..

Any expert can tell us using this method will disables the truck from accepting and transmigrating the smart key start stop and easy entry. However, the remote would still transmit information to the truck and surrounding, unless you put it in battery saving mode every time, which is a pain. and there is a chance that the hacker can intercept the remote when you unlock the car.
So using this method, if the hacker uses a relay to duplicate your key to a virgin key, and he opens your car and holds the new virgin remote close to the start button, would the new RFID chip start the car??
If it does, then this method is useless....

The rfid chip does not transmit, it needs to be physically help up to the sensor to be read, like any keyless entry system.

    Hi:

This does not answer the question,
If this procedure is done to disable the smart key start/stop from the truck (not remote). does copying the remote to a virgin remote using the relay method would start the car using the new virgin RFID chip... If it does not, then putting the remote in battery save mode is not necessary after this procedure...

I think you'd have to ask the dealership or a locksmith how they program a new key. The RFID chip works even with the battery removed, so I am pretty sure this is independent of the smartkey transmission signal. Let us know if you manage to find out!

As an extreme measure, you can put your remote in battery saving mode once and for all. From then on, you pull the physical key out of the fob to lock/unlock like a good ol' truck. To start the Engine, place the fob against the start button.

This way nothing will be transmitted...Ever!
