Anyone know when document fees became common? I don't remember them from my first new car buy years ago, but they seem to be everywhere now.

Back before the a$$ f-ing without K-Y from "stealerships".
Seriously though, how much does it cost to pull up a matrix on the computer, add names and push the print button.
    Rant over...

I remember them from the first car I bought new. That was in the early 80's. Back then they were reasonable, you were basically paying the dealer $50 to go to the dmv and get your tags and file the title papers. You could also refuse and do it yourself.

Now it's a profit center for dealers....

Fuck dealerships. I think the next car I buy will have to be an EV or dealership-less. Fuck these people

So... how do you really feel? :)

I agree it's a crock. I was just curious when they started this.

Not to hijack my own thread, but I'm vetting dealerships now in terms of which ones charge what, who adds the REALLY IMPORTANT stuff like nitrogen in the tires that none of us can live without, etc. I have eliminated a lot of dealers just because they make it obvious that they play games. I think I MIGHT have found one I can deal with, but it's early in the game and they may yet shoot themselves in the foot.

Ditto. It becomes a matter of what is the least amount of shit one is willing to eat.
    Best of luck.

It’s amazing how quickly (at least in the past) these doc fees or at least the cost of the doc fees can change when you walk out of an almost finalized deal.

I bought my 1st new car back in the late 80's and there was most certainly a Doc fee as well as a misc add on fee of usually $1000 or more depending on vehicle. At least it was where I lived.
