Hi all! I love this forum so much. You all have helped me in the past. I have another question.

I just recently (3 days ago) replaced the tires that came with my 2024 TRD ORP. I bought the Falken AT4W Wildpeaks. Yesterday when I drove over 50mph my steering wheel started shaking. Off balance. I knew immediately. So I brought it back to the (pretty solid) tire place I purchased it from. They rebalanced all four out of balance tires then took it for another test drive. Even after rebalancing them it started doing it again. What would make tires go out of balance like that so fast? They think it’s strange. I think it’s strange.

Have any of you experienced the same? What could be happening? Just wrong tire in general?

    The exact tire measurements are
    265/70R-17 WILDPEAK A/T4W

A tire could be out of round. Does the tire shop do road force balancing? Ask for the force numbers.

Even with road force, my Wildpeak AT3's have had to be rebalanced 4 times in less than 8k miles. The last time in one of them required 3 ounces and the other 4. You could watch my steering wheel shake at 55+, it was bad. I will not be going back to Wildpeaks in the future.

Sometimes when faced with a severe balancing issue, the tire shop needs to rotate the tire on the wheel, offsetting what could be a heavy spot on one or both. See if they're willing to do that. I got a set of Falken Wildpeak AT4s in December 2024, no balancing issues then or since.

shouldnt be happening, have them put on some Toyo AT3s and see if the problem exists.

Glwood54… that’s their next step. They are checking to see if there is a heavy spot in the tire.

Had similar issue with my tire shop. They couldn't seem to balance my tires after a second try. Got them road force balanced at my local Toyota dealership and it stopped the steering wheel shake for me.

I have the same tires. One of 4 was out of round and rejected/covered under warranty. All were road force balanced and my [light] shake was gone. Standard balancing did not find this but the road force did

They are trying the road force again tomorrow morning. That’s what they “have” been doing. If it’s not the road force what else would cause this? My truck only has 8k miles on it so a mechanical issue shouldn’t be happening.

@morfdq … that would work, however, I’m trying like heck to get these brand new Wildpeaks to behave so before I switch them let’s hope they can do a fix

They have to use a Haweka or similar flange that centers the wheel by its lug holes and not the center bore or it will never be balanced. Store that have the hunter brand balancer or specialized in wheel/tires should know what you mean if you ask if they can perform a lug centric tire balance and have the flange..

EDIT: this is super useful : https://www.hunter.com/find-equipme...jwNmRyJLm68gCLZrGFXP8gGy_KOjouz8rTVN_71oc2w-3

There was just a post about two days ago with someone having the same issue with wild peak tires. Exact same issue.

Sometimes you throw a stick-on weight too and they’ll have to be rebalanced. Sounds like a bad tire (or more) though.

can you get Nokian Outpost nAT in your neck of the woods? We have them just across the water here and they’re amazingly good tires.

Sounds like the OP is trying to get the Wildpeaks to behave before ditching them for another brand. Might just be one bad one.

"Road force balancing" allows the tire shop to detect an out of round tire (i.e. force value too large). The solution is to replace the tire.

Techs are bad about "good enough" or "pretty good" as long as machine shows a green light they will tell you it's fine.
A good tech can balance tires on an old simple machine but those guys are hard to find.
4Runners and other midsized toyotas are sensitive to balance for some reason.

On a road force machine it will tell you to position the tire where it should be cause it would not balance.
