    Hello All,

My son recently purchased a 1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4, automatic transmission. About 4 days after buying it, it was stolen. We were fortunate enough to get it back, however there was a lot of internal issues as result of then suspects cutting some wires and frying the ECU. We have a ECU purchased and on the way. Hopefully that solves that one.

But we have one more issue that I was needing help on. There appears to be a hole due to a part missing in what I believe the is the transfer case (please advise if I'm wrong). Can you please tell me what needs to happen or what part I need to purchased in order to plug this hole or fix this. Please see attached picture.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I might well be wrong, as I had a MT 87 4Runner, but I'm pretty sure that's the drain plug for the transfer case.

From the looks of it, you might want to make certain the threads are still OK. May need to pull that plate off and chase the threads. Check the FSM for the correct procedure. Watch out for small little ball bearings with springs behind them popping out from behind innocent looking bolts, if you do need to pull it apart.
You'll need to get a new plug, and a new crush washer, too. The plug is available from pick-n-play type junk yards, or the dealership. The crush washer needs to be new to seal correctly, so the dealership or another decent Toyota parts house is the place to look.

Avoid cheapo Chinese-made after-market parts at all costs!

Does all my rambling help any?

It does make sense. But after finally finding a picture of another one..I realized that the metal tube off to the left in my picture was actually supposed to go there. It had been broken off and moved to the side. I moved it back and it fits. Just need to weld back in place.

That looks like cast aluminum. Welding it would be a royal pain in the ass

Yeah, that will need to come off and go to a welder who knows what he's doing.

...or..."JBWeld tank repair" and you may be surprised how long it stays fixed.
