PXL_20250812_133630064.jpg I bought my 4Runner in April, and the sunroof was inoperable. I tested with a hose to check for leaks and everything was dry inside. I made it through most of the summer through numerous thunderstorms and washes with no leaks. Starting early last month I noticed a small amount of water on the driver's floor mat, and it's gradually become worse. Before I start trying to find where the problem might be, can anyone offer me some advice? I've watched videos of removing the headliner to get to the sunroof to repair it, but no mention of clogged drains, etc.
    Thanks in advance.

There 4 drains in the sunroof and one or more could clogged, the drains are in the 4 corners of the sunroof, the front two drains hoses are routed across the head liner to the A pillars and continue down behind the kick panels and exit out the bottom, most use the plastic string from a string trimmer to clear any clog.

The rear drains hoses go all the way to the back fender well to exit.

The rears are the most difficult to run the plastic string through, but usually it's only the front that get clogged and not that hard to run the plastic string through.

Search the forum or internet/Youtube for how to go about it, most usually start by pour water into the drains to see if water drains out too determine which are clogged if any.

If it's not the drains then you could have a bad seal/weatherstripping.

Thanks for this information. The water is coming in mostly on the driver's side from under the dash and onto the pedal area. In a torrential downpour a couple of days ago, some water spilled from below the sunroof over the front passenger seat when I opened the sliding roof panel below the sunroof. One other time, the driver seat belt was wet after another downpour. Some of these leak locations may have to do with the incline when parked, but it seems that the front drains are the most likely to be clogged. The problem I have is that the sunroof will only open to tilt on the passenger side, and the driver side doesn't lift. So no pouring water down the tubes from the top. It does close and seat back down when I close it. The leaks didn't start until almost three months after I purchased the truck. Where should I look under the chassis to find the hose ends to try the weed eater string from the bottom up? I'll search Youtube for help too.

Since I rarely use a sunroof on any vehicle, and repairing this was way down the list of projects behind replacing headlights, front grille that's hanging on by three connecting bolts, and a few other things. I guess I need to move it up in priority.

I use a piece of weed whacker line to clear my drain line..use a lighter to melt the end of the line to create a smooth round tip. Feed the line into the drain line. Use a piece long enough to reach from the drain at roof to end of drain line.if that does not work you can try using a compressor with low air pressure and a rubber tipped air blower. Sounds like possibly someone tried to clear drain line and perforated line??

You need to remove the kick panel/s to see where the drain hose/s exits the vehicle and I have never heard of anyone doing the process from the bottom up, they always go down from the sunroof, as I mentioned before look for topics here and videos on YouTube to see how it's done.
