    Hello everyone.
Happy to be able to ask you guys with more knowledge about my car issues.
I got this 1997 3.4 from my dad who past away and I've been learning mechanic with it to be able to keep it running. I have learn alot so far.
Now I'm dealing slow cranking and I suspect low fuel preasure. I want to test the preasure and I have a gauge but don't know where to connect it to test the preasure. Where is it ?

Also to give u more info.
The fuel pressure regulator was replaced about 8 months ego. Fuel filter about a year ego.
I cleaned all fuel injectors about 7 months ego.

When I turn car on crank fro few secs u till it starts. If I turn it off and turn back on after withing 5 minutes or so. It starts fast. But if I wait let's say 30 minutes or more. Then takes few seconds to start.
Feels like the pressure is not holding up.

    Any advice is highly appreciated.

My car has been doing that for 150k miles.

It's just normal for an older car.

For unrelated reasons, I have replaced the entire evap system, the fuel pump and filter and it made no difference

I am pretty sure, you may find it's the crank, cam or MAF sensor. Next T-Belt change, I will replace the sensors as they are due after 277k miles...but am not looking to chase down such a minor issue.

Well. Do you know how to connect to test fuel preasure?

Is it possible that low fuel trigger the idle control valve code.?
Because I have been dealing with that too. Buy replaced valve and check for vacuum leaks and everything related to that code and still haven't been able to take care of it

I’m having a similar issue on warm starts, not cold or hot. Mine starts then bogs down after sitting about 30 minutes or so. I have replaced the fuel regulator, no help. Then the fuel injectors, no help. Then replaced the aftermarket MAF sensor with OEM as well as replacing O2(A/F) sensors with OEM. This seems to have improved the problem, but it is still present. Next I will be checking spark plugs/wires to see if they are correct and checking condition etc.
Basically, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole and my bet is that it may be plugs/wires in the long run. So, start cheap with plugs/wires as a good tune up always helps. Not much else to cause this issue.
Good luck, and report back with your results.

What code? You didn't mention that.

    Post the code.

Regardless, it shouldn't be fuel related as that is really not part of the fuel system. Did you buy a TOYOTA valve from a dealer? (Amazon and Ebay are full of fakes) Also, did you clean the Throttle Body?

Bro. You describe exactly my problem. And I have done everything you said. Including spark plugs and wires. That's why I'm thinking is furl preasure related

    I have been dealing with a P0505

And yes . I cleaned the throttle body.
And not. Valve I got was not from toyota dealer.
So yes. I. Considering getting the one from dealer. Is over 200 dollars. So I was hoping I didn't have to . But looks like.i do.

But I think thus 2 problems might not be related. Ir could make it worse. But not necessarily related

That code says there is a mismatch in the idle. The ECU is trying to adjust idle, but can't. It's not necessarily that the valve is bad. You may want to pull the valve and test it.

If it's not the valve you may have a vacuum leak after the throttle body.

Exactly. Yes! And I have done so much about this.
Smoke tested for vacuum leaks. ( fixed couple small leaks) cleaned valve MD throttle. Replaced pcv valve. When I did that yhe code when away for 24 hours... then came back. And is been like that for like 6 months.
Now im dealing with what I think is low fule pressure and I suspect fuel pump.
I feel that the slow cranking is 2 different problems than some how make each other worse. I hope that make sense

What do you mean by "slow cranking"?

"Cranking" is a term for when you turn the key and the engine is turning over prior to firing up.

"Slow cranking" would point to a worn starter or bad wiring.

Do you mean delayed starting? Or rough starting?

Delaying starting is what I was trying to communicate.

Takes few seconds to start. But once it starts and I turn it off and on withing lest say a minute. Starts fine. But if yhe car sitting for let's say 10 minutes then I experience delaying to start

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
The fuel pump in these trucks has a anti-flowback valve, to keep the pressure in the fuel system. HOWEVER! the spec in the FSM for the delay in the fuel system draining down is 5 minutes. So, when you go to start up after 5 min or so, it takes a few seconds longer, due to the necessity of pressurizing the fuel system sufficiently.

It's not a problem it's the normal operation of the fuel system. you want it to fire directly upon cranking, turn the key to Start without pressing in the clutch, or the Clutch Cancel switch. Listen to the fuel pump, and when it changes tone, press in the clutch, or the Clutch Start Cancel Switch. It'll fire right off.

    Have fun!
