As to HOW it got cracked? I am not sure. All my shop guy is telling me is that it "won't hold liquid." I am decisively --not-- a car guy. I may not even be interpreting what he said accurately, but can ask again to be sure. As for the fuel line? It isn't leaking, no. But it appears that in the process of tightening the new fuel filter onto it we over-flared the male-to-female part of the line that connects TO the fuel filter. So, that is to say, the current fuel filter is probably the last one that will ever go on on that fuel line unless we can somehow fix it.

I can probably find an older Tacoma/T100/4Runner from between '96 and 2000 SOMEWHERE near me to grab the parts from. Such a crying shame.

See if you can snag fuel lines too while you are out junkyarding. Your location says East Coast so not sure if rust/corrosion is an issue but fuel lines are quite prone to that so inspect closely.

I would be happy to try that....but I don't really know what goes into removing a fuel line. Sounds involved. I can look into it.

Next time your under the truck trace the lines forward and backward. That should give you an idea of what you're looking at.

    Good news!

My master mechanic guy at the school WAS able to re-flare the fuel line AND source a working lower-intake! I got new gaskets as well, and 6 TOYOTA fuel injectors. It runs BEAUTIFULLY now! It is saved to drive another day!!

Yessir! Only other thing I will do is have him swap the timing belt for a new one, and then hopefully I will get many years to come with just standard oil, coolant, tires, and cleaning regularly.

The ONLY LAST THING that could kill the car at this point that I can think of is transmission failure maybe? Or something with the 4WD transfer. I don't think those fluids have EVER been changed and I have been told that all of those internal non-user-serviceable fluids are STUPID expensive to replace.

EDIT: I will post a pic in the thread as a thank u when it comes home!

As promised! She's home! All that's left now is the belt, but it runs really well right now with the new gaskets, lower intake, and injectors!

    Thanks all!
