    I'm new to the forum. I'm the original owner of a 1998 4Runner 3.4L V6.

I recently had a clanging noise coming from the rear of the vehicle; turns out an 8-inch metal pice had corroded, come loose and was hitting the drive shaft when the vehicle turned. I pulled it off and no more clanging.

I don't have a name for this part, nor do I know if it is important enough that I should replace it - see attached pictures.

I would appreciate any information and guidance. Thanks!
