    Hello fellow members,

I just picked up a TRD sport last week. Coming from a tacoma, highlander and finally to a 4runner. Love the look and feel of it. Looking forward on learning new things about 4runners and from other members as well.

Cheers to all and stay safe.

You do know that this vehicle has the xreas suspension right? Alot of owners have no idea about this unfortunately until the system starts leaking

How many miles before it starts leaking normally?
Does it throw any warnings on dash?
Is the car not drive-able when it start leaking?
Does it has to be Toyota only part or can be replaced by any other suspension?

Fear Mongering for absolutely no reason.

1)Most owners report around 150,000-175,000 before it starts leaking. Sure some have reported leaking at 80,000 but some are over 200,000 still running Xreas
2)No it does not throw any warnings on the dash, it is a pressurized system where the shocks are linked together with a series of high pressure canisters and lines filled with nitrogen gas and oil. Typically the seals on the shock shaft start leaking, this leaks nitrogen and oil and eventually the shock does not have the capability to dampen the springs "bounce"
3)When it starts leaking you might notice the suspension feeling like it bottoms out on big bumps a little more than normal, the real tale-tell is when you hit a pot hole and feel the shock top out, meaning the spring pushes the shock absorber to its full stroke limit and you hear the shock audibly make a "thud/clank" as the shock tops out. Without the nitrogen gas and oil on the top of the shock, there is nothing to slow the shock down so the spring will forcibly push the A-arm down at full extension over a deep pot hole and the shock cant stop it and the shock tops out. You will by then notice the corner that is leaking has a fluttering sound over big bumps as the shock isnt able to control the springs "bounce" but it is definitely drivable, just not necessarily enjoyable.
4)No you can put all sorts of things on the vehicle, the sky is the limit. You can order cheap base model shocks from Ebay, you can order TRD shocks, aftermarket Bilsteins, you can put just about whatever your budget allows. When you replace the Xreas shock system you will have to replace all 4 shocks together because they are linked with a series of lines and canisters called expansion chambers. You can pull the whole system out, or you can simply just remove the shock and replace the shock itself with a stand alone shock absorber like most every other vehicle on the planet has.
