I am new to the forum, and new to owning a 4Runner!
I have had my 2023 Limited for about 6 mos and am totally in love with it.
I am interested in making two modifications to it with either wider running boards or Nfab steps and maybe larger rims and tires?
The steps/running boards will actually be useful, the factory ones are barely wide enough to get your foot on. Then if I add those, I am not sure if I should change the tires to wider, bulkier tires? I don't plan on offroading or trying to change it into that look, but I am wondering if different tires will look better if I do add the nerf bar steps: https://realtruck.com/p/aps-black-drop-step-nerf-bars/.
What are the thoughts of people more educated about 4Runner Limiteds than I am?

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I recommend you get power running boards. They have two great features:

    1) A wider-flatter step when in use.
    2) A lower step when in use. It makes the stepping in very easy if you're short or eldery (or both).

I think sticking with stock rims is the way to go, but with a slightly more agressive looking tire. In the end, it's your truck, your money and you should do what you want. That's a very sharp truck!

I agree with Borracho Loco because Limited have a thicker rocker panel and when you install fixed running boards its too low to my taste atleast.

The nerf bars posted on the first post most likely not fit. The arm look like for other trims with low profile rocker panel. Limited running boards have longer arms to clear the thicker rocker panel.

But be careful power running boards may have issues long term with all the moving parts.

I tried slightly bigger tires 275/55R20 but wasn't my cup of tea. For a white 4Runner Limited I think 17x7.5in +15 offset TRD Offroad wheels with light weight 265/70R17 tires would give a nice look. If you were to swap wheels to 17in make sure you have 5 wheels. Limited have matching 5 wheels with 5 tpms sensors. (Wish my 2021 TRD Pro had 5 tpms and matching tires. )

Thank you! I appreciate the suggestion from Borracho Loco on power running boards, I have considered those too, but I dont know enough about running boards in general. I live in Southwest Michigan and we have had quite a winter so far lol. I wondered if power running boards would get jammed up with snow and ice and either just not come out, and/or somehow ruin whatever motor they use to come out, by being stuck with ice and trying to come out?
I also appreciate the suggestion from kmeeg on wheels and tires, since I am not a car person, I didnt know what you meant by 5 wheels and tires, but thanks to Google I figured it out! Hahaha to be honest I never even thought of the spare.

Welcome from Wisconsin! The power running boards are very useful and classy, they kind of go with the rest of your vehicle. I always see the Limited as the luxury line of 4Runners. My opinion on the tires and rims is that you don't need the extra bulk of an all terrain tire without sacrificing mileage, wheels on the other hand are your personal 'likes', go on some of the wheel sites and you can see what your 4Runner would look like with the wheels you're looking at. You also realize after you have made these choices/changes you should post some pictures! Good luck.

    1) Regularly clean the hinges and lubricate the pivot points to prevent corrosion from Southwestern Michigan’s winter road salt and slush.
    2) He is suggesting that you switch out all 5 tires when you do upgrade - including the spare. Some people on this site are huge fans of doing 5 wheel tire rotation; when it's time for a tire rotation. It means you'll pay more money up front, but if you rotate all 5 you use all 5. If you only change out 4 tires, and not the spare. Well, the spare is for emergencies and it may never get used. Your money is wasted (since you paid for the tire when bought the entire truck).

    Welcome.

I had factory installed power running boards on my 2016 Limited and they were amazing.

For wheels, the silver TRD Off-road wheels should’ve come standard on the limited. They are the best looking and best bang for your buck wheel out there, especially on Blizzard Pearl.

I do only 4 tire rotation. My idea for changing 5 tire is if I had to use the spare tire I don't feel comfortable running 245/60R20 tire or other non matching size. If my running tires are 265/70R17 I prefer to have spare tire in same size.

Since you vehicle did not come with power running boards, you can not get power running boards for it.
Nobody makes aftermarket power running boards for the Limited 4runner.

The Limited 4runner has lower hanging rocker panels. This means any running board made for the Limited has longer brackets to put the running board lower, below the low hanging rocker panel. When you order running boards you must be sure to specify that you have a Limited.

Unfortunately, there are not many offerings of running boards for the Limited that actually stick out any farther than those black running boards you have. Those that you have are about as wide as they get honestly, as bad as it is to say. Those are the running boards used on the Nightshade models hence why they are black. They could be ordered and likely how yours got them. Those running boards are more squared on the ends where as the standard running boards on the Limited had the chrome side trim are more tapered on the ends. The OEM running boards for the Limited with the chrome trim are even narrower than those black ones you have. I personally dont like the OEM Toyota offerings for the Limited. I think i found a set once upon a time years ago that were a little wider, by like 3/4" and considered getting them before finding a set of power running boards used from a Limited that had them from the factory. The only way to get the power running boards for the Limited is to have your vehicle come with them from the factory since there are no kits to put them on the Limited 4Runner.

I think what you have is considered a 5.5" step. I assume they measure the entire width of the step. Unfortunately about 1.5" of it is tucked under the rocker panel which doesnt give you a lot of step to use when you step out. You barely get your heel on it and its easy to slip off. These below are what appear to be the widest i can easily find today.

    Welcome Christy!
You may be able to search around this site a bit to find it, or maybe someone will help. The Limiteds have a “fatter” plastic cladding on the bottom of the door area which makes it harder to get your foot in there. Someone here posted their process of changing the cladding with that of a different model. They had included part numbers too. If I remember correctly it was white as well.
