    Hi All,

I believe I've read through all the existing threads on this topic and was wondering if anyone successfully added the feature using all OEM parts? It seems like the item of concern with the aftermarket option is using the aftermarket clock Spring. Couple questions

    (1) Is it safe to assume no matter where you order from its all the same? CarTrimHome, YotaExpedition, Amazon etc

    (2) Would anyone have the part numbers for the appropriate clock spring, steering wheel, accessory button.. I found a part number for the Clock Spring (84307-35040) but it lists as fitment only the 2023/24 Limited's.. Meanwhile (84307-35030) lists all trims from 2020-2024. I believe TRD Pros came with the heated steering wheel starting 2023 so why wouldn't it fit with the first part number?

    (3) If the biggest concern is the clock Spring, could you order one of the aftermarket kits and use everything but the clock spring, and get the OEM version instead??

I guess my biggest concern going aftermarket is risking any safety features. God forbid you get into an accident and an airbag doesnt deploy.. We know which way the insurance would go.. Thanks ahead for any constructive feedback. BTW I am looking for this upgrade on a 22 TRD Pro.. Thanks again

    (1) Should be. Though as with any chineseium part, if you place two orders three months apart from the same page, there's no guarantee the parts will be the same. Supply chain variations and unannounced changes can happen any time.

    (2) Good luck with this one! Also imagine what will happen when you need to replace the OEM clock spring say 10 years from now. Think all those P/N variations will remain available?

    (3) The aftermarket clock spring may have a different pinout from OEM for the heater wire to mate for the aftermarket harness (which may be designed for easier retrofit install).

The biggest risk is the clock spring or steering wheel catching on fire, since the heater runs on much higher current than the other switches going through the clock spring. Airbag wire broken would cause the SRS light or fault message to illuminate in the gauge cluster, so it's annunicated.

Oldred makes a wiring harness that uses the OEM wheel and an OEM switch.

@whippersnapper02 yea i saw some post mention this and a link to his Instagram which i sent a follow request. Sounds like he has no inventory at the moment but is working on more. Hopefully once he approves the follow request i can find more info there as well.

I went 100% OEM with a harness from OldReds4R. He’s on Instagram. When he gets more made, he has excellent instructions and they come with what part numbers you’ll need. FYI, not the most frugal option but it is OEM.

I personally dont order from Amazon for car parts. Too many counterfeit parts being sold.

Have you pulled the lower dash to check and see if you have the factory wiring?
There have been plenty that only needed to purchase and install the $7 dash switch.

It was only added for 24. Toyota loves changing the wiring harness for any reason at all so they wouldn’t add it before that if they didn’t have to.

There were people with 2022 and 2023 models that took the lower dash out and found they had the factory wiring already behind the dash and only needed the switch.

Looks like added in 23, not 24. I saw one mention of wiring being there but nothing showing it's there for sure. Could be but Toyota loves their last minute changes to wiring.

Seemed like the TRD ORP and a few others were getting the heated steering wheel and wiring in (i thought) 2022 and 2023
The forum was going pretty crazy about it late 2023 after people started finding that their vehicles were pre-wired and had the wheel, and only needed the switch.

Also some may be Canadian Runners which had the heated wheel before the US, they don't have premium versions and their OR comes with auto lights and the dual zone climate control.

I dont recall any of that. What I remember is that a bunch of people here had bought MY23 with no idea that their trim had heated steering wheel (i.e. SR5P) until they were told to look at the somewhat hidden switch on the right of the steering wheel.

Also no MY22 came with heated steering wheel. MY23 were the first ones to have it on certain trims

    Yes
It was on the other 4R forum
    Late 2023
Someone found it on theirs cause they bought all the stuff to do theirs. Pulled it apart and found they already had everything. All they had to do was install the switch. All the factory wiring and everything was behind the dash.
Then lots of people started finding it and realizing they were already wired up. So many people were buying the switches from Toyota that they depleted the toyota inventory and the switches went on backorder. I remember it and pulled our 2023 apart but it didn’t have it. It’s only “some” vehicles that got it. It seemed to be the Offroad versions maybe that I remember that seemed to be the predominant versions that were getting it.
