I am a HAM radio operator and just purchased a 2023 4Runner. Owners manual p.9 states many concerns about 2way mobile radio operations interfering with vehicle systems! Looking for feedback from forum users of HAM and CB radio? Thanks

Hopefully you'll get solid info from someone here. There are a few threads discussing ham radio but they don't get much into the technical aspects of installation. I found a similar caution note in the manual for my Highlander. I remember asking a service manager at the dealership and he said it shouldn't be a problem, but I never got around to installing a rig in my car so I didn't pursue it.

I'm still shopping for a 4Runner and planning on mounting a 2m/440 rig.

    Here's a thread:

    Oh, welcome!

Follow up: If you haven't seen it already, this site has a ton of information on mobile installations in general, but not 4Runner-specific:

All I can say is I haven't faced any issues with GMRS radios with 4Runners. Haven't seen any issues with range as well. No idea about HAM radio.

I've had a ham radio (Icom 2730A) in my 2018 since I bought the vehicle. No issues. My radio equipment is powered directly from the battery and the circuit is controlled via a relay and switch.

I use an NMO magnetic mount because I'm very leery of running through the roof mount cables around the air bags.

I've also used my CB (Anytone At-6666) in the vehicle a couple of times.

Biggest issue with the 4Runner (and most new vehicles) is insufficient room to mount radios. My Icom has a removable front panel) which mounts under the infotainment unit and the radio box is mounted under a seat. Unfortunately, there are no CB radios with similar design.

I and most of my 4wheeling friends have moved away from CB anyway.

I've never had an issue running 50w in my '19. 3db gain antenna is on the hood so it's close to major electric components, too. I'm sure it's fine.
