    Hi 4Runners,
I'm about to buy my first 4Runner, and am in process of making decisions on TRD OR or not, color... that's about my available choices. Here on Maui the one dealer basically brings in 2 different configurations, although closely after the Tacoma the 4Runner is wildly popular and functional.
I am on my third Tacoma TRD OR, and also own a 2000 Tundra for farm work and a 1994 Wrangler. All will stay as part of our ranch & family here in remote Southeast Maui, where we live way off the grid.
    Aloha, stay safe,
    Jonathan

Been distancing with my wife at our place in SouthEast Maui. Nice & quiet, not too many people but lots of wildlife and beautiful places to take walks and enjoy along the shoreline. Aloha & stay safe to all.

Welcome Starr. i hope someday to travel to Hawaii! Looking at your fabulous photos makes me want to move it up on my list! Regarding your 4 Runner choices, if you have an opportunity to get an OR, it would definitely be the vehicle of choice given your remote location. The locker alone makes a big difference, as you know from your OR Taco.

Both of my Tacomas, the current '17 and the previous '12 had the OffRoad package which included Billstein shocks, 4600's I recall. Not their best.

I do like having the electronic lockers, and get use out of it. The Crawl is pretty rarely used around here since it is so jerky & clanky. Surprised that the 4Runner OR package doesn't upgrade the shocks. I'll probably put 5100's on it, anyway. I was happy with the 4600 Bilsteins on my Tacoma, but after 3 years they are losing some damping and are due for an upgrade, too. I wish the green color was available in the OR level. The price of the OR PRO is hard for me to justify.

Will be waiting for things to normalize before I finish the deal for the new 4Runner. We are staying home except for essential trips or afternoon walks in the area, and the dealership is shuttered too.

This quiet side of Maui is a great place to live. We've been here for decades. East Maui is shut down now for non-residents, feels more like the old days.

I’m just waiting to pull the trigger on some shocks for my ORP. I decided to go with a premier Canadian suspension company - ELKA. They make a KDSS system that I really like.

I ordered my 4Runner TRD OR yesterday. Dealerships are under mandate not to sell vehicles due to CV-19 quarantine, so I have to wait a while before I can finalize & pick it up.
The truck is reserved for me, and it will be there when I need it. The inventory of vehicles here on Maui is pretty limited, and when it got down to only one that I liked, I figured I better go ahead. There is no way of knowing when or if new inventory will be showing up. If there is other inventory available on island by then, I can rethink it. Also this gives me time to sell my wife's MB GLK250 AWD diesel which has 7 years on it and is due for replacement.
The 4Runner is a TRD OR in silver, with premium audio and KDSS. That's the stuff I like; I'm often fighting the traction equation in steep slick mud. Unfortunately it has the running boards, which will likely be replaced by sliders, and the OEM rubber will be ditched for lava rock resilient E-range KO2's.
I know the KDSS limits suspension options, but I have no desire to lift it. I strongly dislike not having a decent stock front towing point. My towstrap is kept handy, and I end up pulling vehicles out of the #%$Sht quite regularly, and I'm not seeing many options for solid shackle attachments that work with the KDSS. I don't want the weight up front for a heavy bumper. Will have to do more research on that. I'll have to design a custom vinyl racing stripe for it and pin striping and some perhaps some other black embellishments. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

Nice, great choice, Starr. How can you go wrong with 4 Runner ORP? I love KDSS on mine. Mainly at high speeds. I go off road, but only as a means to an end, not an end in itself. I had the dealer take the running boards off of mine before I picked it up. Here in Canada, they just get packed with slush, salt and snow in the winter and make your pant legs dirty getting in and out. I also had the dealer put e range KO2s on mine, and I sold the OEM car tires in a day for 1/2 price on Kijiji. I put a winch on my 4 Runner, and in order to do so, I used a Victory 4x4 aluminum bumper. They’re well made in Michigan, USA, and have functional recovery points. Mine looks stock, you wouldn’t even know the winch is there unless you’re a 4Runners.com member. It’s light and functional.

Sounds like a nice setup you put together. I checked out the Victory website. looks like great stuff. The Aluminum bumpers are lightweight and well designed.

Here's the trusty 2000 Tundra. It gets daily use as a farm truck, a bit beat up but with over 100,000 hard miles, it's needed minimal work over the years (wheel bearings, timing chain, brake stuff) and good regular services.
