Got a good one for ya's. Last week, I was filling up at a local gas station / convenience store in our area, called QuikTrip (yes that's how they spell it- the "c" is missing, and, all one word) Or, "QT' for short.

Anyways, there's a lot of pumps there. So I'm just hanging out at my pump, filling my T4R. Just by pure chance, I notice this one guy at the pumps ahead of me in my aisle start pumping his gas, but then he leaves his truck to go in to the store, while he leaves his pump running to fill his truck. (Not a good idea, IMO.)

Lo and behold, here another guy, a young punky sort- on the opposite side of that pump unit comes across, grabs the other guy's gas pump hose, and takes it across and sticks the nozzle in HIS truck!!!!

I thought like WTF!!!??? I decided to speak up. I yelled out very loudly HEY MF’er I SAW THAT! (only difference I used the full MF words there) He gives me a sort of oh oh, really scared look, and he up and just hangs up the other guy's gas hose on the proper pump, which cancels the pumping and he hurriedly jumps in his truck and drives off! What an idiot, like he thinks no one’s going to see him doing that???? Or didn’t think anyone would speak up and say anything!!!! I was so vocal, it got the attention of a few other people. I guess they must have been wondering what the hell was going on. lol. I made a mental note of the punk's license plate number as I watched him drive off. Like, WTF man. F’ing thieves everywhere!

As for me, I NEVER, EVER, leave a vehicle unattended when fueling. I stay right there!

So anyways, I finish refueling, and I go and write down the punk's license plate number on a notepad and pen I always keep handy in my vehicle. I waited for that other guy to come back out from the store. I told him what I saw. He was quite aghast, lol. I told him I saw it the moment it started happening, and I immediately yelled at the thief, so I didn't think the punk pumped much gas at all, if anything. I gave the guy the license number and color and make of vehicle. It was an older Dodge Ram. I politely suggested to this guy that it's not a good idea to leave your vehicle unattended when refueling. lol! I told him they probably have the incident on some sort of security camera if he wanted to pursue the matter. He thanked me and he did actually go back in to the store then.

But anyways, with that, I left. Dang, the crap that goes on these days!

Don't leave your vehicle unattended when gassing up folks!!!!!! Be observant!

This has been a public service announcement.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I've seen this happen too. I've also seen people being unaware of their surroundings and someone opening a passenger door to grab items from inside the vehicle. Yes, it's deplorable, wrong, etc. and try not to victim blame, but if the driver of the vehicle was aware of their surroundings and not so non-chalant about things then theives wouldn't have the chance to steal from them.

Like that guy you mention. I bet he also left the truck unlocked. A lot of people do when they exit the vehicle to gas up. Even when they stand by their vehicle. Not me! When I'm gassing up, I stay next to the pump. That means I cannot see the other side of my truck. So I make sure the doors are shut and locked.

But good on ya' for speaking up. You saved that guy some money.

That’s how you get shot, I wouldn’t have said anything. They have cameras they can read license plates.

We have a QT here that I use regularly. One of the problems here is the stupidity of leaving your vehicle at the pump AT ALL when you’re not right there pumping gas. These idiots might just finish filling up and leave their vehicle at the pump while they go shopping or to the restroom or whatever. Fucking rude. There’s dozens of parking places open for use. GTF out of the away so someone else can get gas.

Oh yep, if it was packed (like I’ve seen) and I was any pettier I’d park askew and try to use the pump. (it would be on my dime naturally, since the pump isn’t even in the car)

I did this when someone parked in the Costco tire pressure station. I parked one way in the aisle, put air in one side since the hose reached, turned around, did the other two. (other station was busy)

One of their tires seemed low when I left so maybe they could use the station whenever their business is done.

I’m assuming the gas thing is a country habit where there’s less traffic per pump but with how selfish folks can be I wouldn’t be surprised if it was across the board.

Anyone recall the oil embargo and gas lines in the 70s? People running around in the middle of the night with siphons and gas cans!

In my concealed carry class we were told by an ex Illinois State police officer that the gas station is the most likely place for you to get robbed or car jacked. You need to “signal” to everyone around you that you’re aware of your surroundings. Head on a swivel and walk to all corners of your car while fueling. Don’t be a victim. I lock my wife in the car. She has a concealed weapon as well. If you don’t have a concealed carry the next best thing is bear mace/spray. And never forget. If you can’t defend yourself, give up your car.

Dang you sound like my wife! I made the mistake of telling her what happened. She proceeded to ream me out a new rear end, saying precisely the same thing, that I risked getting shot. “Yes-ssss Dear.”

I'll truly never understand why people think that a gas pump is a place to leave their vehicle unattended.

I would have done the same thing, I’m always ready for a gunfight especially in theses times. Oh and good luck with places like Q-Tip having working and clear cameras.

I only fuel up at night at stations with good all around visibility so I am in the car and on my way if people start walking or moving toward me. In my area there are too many gypsies, yes, actual gypsies that came over from Romania and other assorted eastern european places, running scams and panhandling using disabled or malnourished children as props during the day when the stations are busy, as well as window smashers who knock out passenger side windows to scan for loot. Both types are aggressive and often armed. Police won't do anything to avoid perception of "disproportionally target certain demographics".

If anyone says "move to a nicer area", the median house price in my town is 1.9 million as of this month.

I'm stuck in CA due to family obligations, my folks are too old to move at this point and I need to be within a short driving distance, so such is life.

If I'm pumping gas by myself, I reach over and lock the passenger doors by hand. Too many stories and videos of bad guys pulling up and opening the passenger-side door to grab a purse or backpack, etc. Glad I don't live in the Phx area anymore. Some of the moochers are pretty pushy. There's a QT on most every exit off the 17.

Ha yeah I’m originally from Memphis so I basically patrol around my vehicle the entire time I’m pumping. I almost got robbed one time as a 16 year old standing between my door and the pump (bad bad idea in Memphis) but fortunately when I got super vocal the guy backed off because there were lots of people around.

Ever since then I hook up the pump as quickly as possible and then proceed to walk the corners of the vehicle. I also carry. Can’t be too careful.

That's crazy, I thought those days were behind us. But i guess thieves are everywhere.
I mean, i've been guilty in a rush for time to start filling up and running in for the bathroom or a quick drink.

Stark differences below the 49th parallel.... Terrifying. Cant imagine having that fear while pumping my own gas.

More amazing that people consider it normal for that to happen and just allow it and use some sort of excuse like “that’s part of living in fill in the blank area”

Amen. I think we all live in the “Fuck Around and Find Out - FAFO for short” states. Errrrrrbody carries, so you need to be very careful who you try to rob in Texas.

    Not worth the risk.

Nuts enough to steal gas like that, nuts enough to shoot your ass.

There was no danger to your life or family nor to anyone else.

Money/gas can be replaced. Funerals for butting in are expensive...

That's crazy, but i can certainly see it it happening nowadays. Back in the day i would let it fill while i checked my oil or ran in real quick, but very rarely. Was no big deal back then, everyone watched out for each other and evryone knew it. Now i wont even leave my car at the pump if i need to run in real quick, way too many people.

Only thievery back then was employees of the gas station allowing friends/family top off for free. lol
