not having a locking door was a shock to me when i first filled up my 4r. i spent 5 minutes looking for the interior latch at the costco line but couldnt find it lmao. i wish it would at least lock when the vehicle is locked though, i thought it was standard on all cars up until now. it's also something no reviews ever really talk about so i never paid attention to that while researching. my 4r is always garaged and i live in a decent area, but sad to see that there are scums who are stealing people's gas.

    All of them.
Don’t modern Toyota have a filter inside the filler neck that also aids in preventing a cyphon hose from reaching the tank?

I'm certain that if someone is going to siphon your tank that a latched door will only mean that you end up with no gas plus a damaged gas door after they pry it open with a screwdriver.

A few years back I had to replace the fuel pump on my boys 95’ civic. Of course he had just topped the tank off. We tried to siphon some gas out to allow pump removal without spilling gas inside the car.

We couldn’t get the hose in far enough to reach the gas. I’m not positive but I think the filler necks on modern cars have a anti siphon neck.

Modern cars have anti-rollover protection valves in the filler tube somewhere near the tank. Either a butterfly valve or a ball valve to prevent back flow. They make it difficult but not impossible to get a siphon tube down there. The bigger problem is removing the tube when you’re done. There are lots of posts on forums of stuck hoses in filler necks.

Locking gas caps may not be a thing of the past but, where we live 4 guys just got caught drilling a hole in the gas tanks of vehicles. they got about $25.00 worth of gas, and they now have a criminal record.... good! The locking cap may deter someone for a while but if they want gas they might just 'drill' the tank. FWIW.

Just saw a story here on the news, 4-Runner got his tank drilled, and it was a $1500.00 repair bill.

So last month we’re discussing cats and now it’s drilled holes in gas tanks. :(

    What’s next?

Sinkholes in the seats, from which demons enter our realm to bugger us?

Not a suggestion or prediction... just a guess!

Hate to say it there just punching hole in your gas tank most tanks are plastic , I seen what looked like a ball valve with a pipe on the end sharpened on a angle , like 3ft long , angle they just wackin the tank and there’s there fuel tap .
We got a few guys in Philadelphia doing this .
Thats after they cut off your catalytic converter … bad people out there .

Have a drill with a certain size, drill tank, insert hose with pump and seal for hole, pump into container ... not hard.

I think this is the same product, under multiple names. After reading reviews, it's a crapshoot if it doesn't cause a CEL on your Toyota/Lexus.

Gas in my area is a high as $4.60 today. Probably pointless to get a new gas cap if thieves will just drill the tank.

I would rather thieves just take the gas and leave the vehicle alone. Seems to be less expensive to replace the gas than the fuel tank. Sure... the insurance thing, who wants to go thru all the BS? Aggravating... yes!

Put a flash bang tripped by the gas door
That should leave a skid mark you can follow
