We were talking about fuel additives today. One of the guys I work with uses Royal Purple or BG44K, another guy uses Chevron Techron in his 2022 Tacoma. I have never used additives. What is the consensus?

Not needed on your 23 unless you neglected it. If you gas mileage unexpectedly drops below typical yet there is no codes, you can try running injector cleaner. You want one with high PEA content, like BG44K.

I use BG44K on cars with direct injection, because there is a remote possibility high-pressure injector can go bad in a way that would cause internal cylinder damage. I also use BG44K on classic cars that sit and may be exposed to old gasoline.

The key reason to own a 4Runner is its bulletproof engine. It really doesn't need anything but regular oil changes.

Not needed really. I use Techron every now and then, like maybe every 20k or if I'm on the road for a very long trip. But the true is that they don't do much of anything. Is like taking a vitamin every now and then......:notsure:

Run Top Tier gas and don’t worry about fuel additives. Keeps your fuel system and injectors clean.

I try to buy Costco or Mobil, end up with Sams once in awhile. Living in The People's Republic of Illinois and being close to St. Louis, there isn't any pure gas close to me. Whenever we road trip, I try to find ethanol free gas to run through it. I have never owned a vehicle more than a year, so this is something new for me.

If your concern is ethanol, use Stabil 360.

When I was a Corvette owner, I had the pleasure of sharing some beers over a campfire with Gordon Killebrew (related to Harmon) who designed most of the C4 engine. He was a MAJOR advocate of Chevron Technron for injectors every 10K miles. He even mentioned it is re-sold or re-branded by other companies in the same noticeable bottle. I have used it ever since ~25 years. No problems at all but cant scientifically prove it is the reason! Every 10K miles or so I put the large size that treats 20 gals before I fill up.

Kings, Crestone Rack, Baja S8, Baja Fogs, Baja XL80s, Baja mini cubes, SPOD, ARB compressor, RCI full skids, ROAM box and stuff. ST Pros. Shrockworks sliders... GOAT armour
Only Chevron Techron with PEA and REdline SL1 work in cleaning injectors, everything else is junk

Its been a couple of years now but, if I know that I will be using more than a full tank of fuel in a single day on a road trip, I'll add in a bottle of Techron at that first fill.
I won't use any additives if only running short in town drives.

I like to put a bone in my nose and dance around a fire every time my 4R turns another 10,000 miles.

That works as well as fuel additives and it's cheaper...

I use Techron in tank once in a while as prevention of carbon build up in throttle body. Since I gas up at 1/4 and a small (up to 12 gal) Techron treats a partial tank -I am usually about 3/4 after adding Techron. So it gets used over a half tank. Then diluted over next fill ups.

I don't really need it since i fill with top tier gas usually but now with 100k and some of the sketchy gas stations i have to use when off roading ill put in Chevron Techron once/twice a year. Definitely recommend Techron over others.

    Sketchy gas pump:

I pour a bottle of this LUCAS fuel treatment in my 2022 4Runner’s tank and wifey’s 2023 RAV4 Hybrid’s tank once every 3 months during a fill up.

Pffft…. Hell I don’t know if it does any good. I guess it’s not hurting anything. The RAV4 Hybrid runs like a top, and reads getting 40 or at least high 30s MPG on combined city / highway driving. Can’t beat that.

My 4Runner SR5 Premium is running great, typically getting 18 to 19 MPG with conservative driving, on stock size 265/70 R17 SL AT tires, typically not hauling any weight / payload.

    Both vehicles use COSTCO gas.

I've been using the royal purple flush every 10k miles........

Tried a bottle of a lucas product once and the computer reading for mpg acted really strange for a while..... haven't used lucas since.
