Does anyone have experience with replacing their front wheel bearings? From what I can find online, most youtube videos show people using a hydraulic press, and make it look fairly straightforward. What they don't show in the videos though is how they set up the steering knuckle on the press, you have to stop the video and try and enlarge the screen to see what their setup looks like. Most involve lots of other steel plates to support the knuckle just right so it sits level in the press, and some of that is hard to source (I found!), as I don't have blocks of metal just laying around the house.

Well, there's several other tools for this on the market, a popular one is called "The Hub Grappler" which looks like an amazing toolkit, but it's ~$700 depending where you get it. Not DIY friendly.
There's other similar tools made by OEM Tools, and O'Reilly rents one similar to the OEM Tools one, made by EverTough. But no matter how hard I research them I cannot determine if they have the proper sized receiver cups and bearing pushers to both extractions (hub and bearings) and reassembly (hub and bearings). The OEM Tools kit is ~$350 on Amazon, so while still pricey, if it gets the job done, it would still be cheaper than taking it to a shop to replace both wheel bearings.
And of course, renting for free from O'Reilly is always the best deal, but if the tool doesn't fit or have the right components for our 3rd gen 4Runners, it's useless.

So after all that rambling, I guess I'm asking, if you've done the front wheel bearings on your 3rd gen 4runner, which method did you use, and what tips/tricks can you share with either method. I have a 12 ton hydraulic press, and would like to use what I have, just don't know where to get the metal plate(s) required to support the steering knuckle in there properly. Plus it means I have to take the steering kuckle off the vehicle, whereas using the hub puller tools (if it fits/has all the right components) allow you leave the steering knuckle attached to the vehicle.

Thanks in advance for any helpful tips in getting this job done!

Here's a photo of the various hub puller/pusher tools I've found:

I will bet money that nothing but a 20 ton or larger press is going to work. Those front wheel bearings are VERY beefy.

You can get the press from Harbor Freight for $250. Probably less if they have a sale.
