It does actually. Oil degrades over time, primarily due to oxidation where it reacts with oxygen, causing the additives in the oil to break down and the oil to become less viscous and effective at protecting engine components. Its why they recommend changing at least every year.

These oil threads are always hilarious. You may think oil spoils faster than milk reading some of these comments. :D

Also short trips doesn’t heat up the oil enough to get rid of the water condensation that builds up

I had a Carmax Venza once with a Trac problem. As a rule, generally Toyotas will issues or problems end up on side lots. Our dealership would trade with domestic dealers to get Toyotas they could sell or certify. Wrecked or high mileage usually on 3rd tier lots. I think Toyota has mostly parts replacement personnel now. Hopefully, replacement of all the parts. I cannot for life of me get my hinges back in the slots. I'm going try the Rival aluminum skid plates. Filter access and not much more than a Baxter adapter. Eliminating skid plate removal and preservation of the threads is more important to me. I don't mind the cartridge filter, just the access. Then I really only need to remove every 100k for synthetic diff service.

Probably someplace where there is no oxygen.
