Hello 4runner folks. My 3rd Generation 4runner (Manual transmission, 4x4, 6 cyl) is much beloved, but the family has outgrown it. In this day and age, besides putting a "For Sale" sign in the window, do folks here have recommendations on how/where to list it? It has 308,000 miles on it, and I would prefer to sell it to someone who can maintain it and keep it on the road. What is a good way to advertise it for private sale? Thank you in advance.

Been using Facebook marketplace. Not thrilled with the responses so far. Lots of pressure tactics and fake offers. I've been asked to trade for a motorcycle, a Prius, and someone wanted to trade for some video game systems. Not exactly what I was looking for.

Little bit of wear and tear, but no visible rust. California is pretty dry luckily. She has been a good car for us, and if I had another garage I'd willingly keep her.

There's alot of fakes out there. Don't respond unless it's something your interested in and the user seems legit.

But there's plenty of people looking for a well kept 4runner.

I know your pain. Last year I sold our beloved family 2004 Pilot AWD with 240,000 miles.
Well maintained and in great shape inside and out. Hoped for $7500. Lots of offers at $1500. Finally found it a good family needing 8 seats. Took $3500 to move it along. Keeping an extra vehicle takes time & money. Now I have both for my 2017 SR5

    Heck NO!

He has a MANUAL 4x4 third gen 6cyl. Those are pretty darn rare and super desired for off-roading. Most were automatics. I believe most Manuals were 4cyl.

Start at $15k and go from there.

This assumes, it is well taken care of and NO RUST.

    EDIT:

Not to mention, this appears to be BONE STOCK. This is an off-roader's DREAM!

I’m still partial to Craigslist. There’s probably some fee though.

You can list on ebay too. Lots of eyeballs there. Listing on ebay for cars was like a $40 flat fee. Usually you make the deal outside of ebay. You just want lots of people to see it.

Still a 30 year-old vehicle with over 300k miles. $15k starts encroaching on early 5th gens and simply get no lookers.

@RocketDan just get your vehicle listed in as many places as you can, and learn to filter out non-serious buyers. FB Marketplace, OfferUp, AutoTrader.com, Craigslist.

Listing on forums will typically require some participation first, here, T4R.org, iH8mud, etc.

    $15k is absolutely ridiculous.

I found my friend a 4Runner nearby with about 150k miles, in excellent condition (mint interior and exterior), V6 4x4 manual for $6,700. Being in CA means absolutely no frame rust around here.

Your vehicle is better kept in the family.

For those wondering about the 4Runner (me in the LC behind) -

At 300k miles, if you do want to get rid of it, I'd say $3-4k would be a fair offer.

Well my experience with Facebook marketplace hasn't been a real pleasant experience. Had two guys swing by to check the vehicle out, one a you man who was a knowledgeable Toyota owner and the other probably looking to make a quick buck on a turn around. Unfortunately the young man tried to threaten me by pointing out all the problems a vehicle with 300,000 miles has had. After we went our separate ways he kept sending me messages of how I should have taken his offer at half the asking price.
I would love to keep this vehicle in the family, but my wife says we don't have the room.

Do folks have any recommendations on how/where to store a spare vehicle off site? I'd love to sell this to someone who will upgrade it and keep it going, but I'll store it for a couple of years until the younglings get their driving permit. Maybe a older vehicle will keep their driving reasonable.

Appreciate the advice. I've never been keen on selling cars and this car has been very good to us for it's entire service life.

You can let me borrow it, and just take it back when you want it/need it again
