so apparently the falken wildpeak at3w which many liked is now discontinued and i can’t find them, it’s replaced by the at4w. i am scared that they might have somehow made the at4w worse. there are no reviews since it is so new. What do you guys think, should i just buy the at4w.

I can't imagine them getting worse. Especially if they were that popular. IMO

huh! Didn't know they were discontinued. I went with KO2 for the looks but they were a close second.

I was just thinking about getting these for my Tacoma to replace my duratracs. We have the at3s in her 4 runner and they ride nice and quiet.

What if you bought AT3s and 2 months from now all the reviews you read are how much of an upgrade the AT4s are? If you have experience with a brand and like them, I say pull the trigger on the new offering. Very few companies are in the business of effing up the new rollout of already good product. (Turd Gen Tacomas being an exception but I digress).

I wonder if KO3 has better water evacuation characteristics than AT4W to avoid hydroplaning.
I also see more siping on KO3 that could help winter traction.

Not sure, I'm not a tire tech or work for them :p

I'm running KO2's on my Venture and my Land Cruiser and couldn't be happier. That said, the Wildpeaks are excellent too and if I wasn't running KO2's (more out of familiarity vs. them being better than the Wildpeaks), I wouldn't hesitate to go with the AT4 Wildpeaks.

Falken is known for quality and durability. IMHO - no way is Falken going to replace a current generation tire that is know the world over (for years) as being superb (AT3) with something that isn't improved (AT4). I wouldn't hesitate to go with the AT4 for that reason.

A local shop in Maurertown va. I have bought tiers from them for many years. The place looks like it's ready to fall down but they have the best deals of anywhere.

I sold my Duratracs and put to do not buy list. But they were the best winter traction tires I had compared to BFG KO2/ FLK AT3W/ N Terra Grappler / C Terrain Contact/ Toyo OC AT3.

Pretty good traction in the dirt but I managed 3rd gear wheelspin on wet pavement on them and that was before the blower. They got loud even with regular rotation. Never again!

When I was tire shopping local tire tech shop owner famously told me he calls Duratrac's "inner tubes with thread on it"

I have about 3k on my stock size Mickey Thompson Baja Boss's and can't say enough great things about them. Game changer during our last snow storm. Quiet, good ride, love them!

I was reading tire reviews for Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s and there were several saying they wore out much faster than expected and got louder with more miles. That said, they all seemed to be reviews for bigger and heavier trucks. Anybody notice unusual early wear or noise with AT3’s on 4Runners?

Mine have a little over 8k miles with no excess wear or increased noise. They're still heavy, though.

I have 22k miles on the stock nitto and no noise. When they’re done I’ve been contemplating between falkens and toyos. I wonder how they compare to the nitto terra in terms of road noise. But also I have a Gobi rack and no issue at all regarding noise despite having read many people complaining about wind noise before I bought it. I wonder if the trd exhaust is the reason I don’t hear tire and wind noise though. I’ve been debating on doing the mod to make it as quiet as the non trd exhaust but then I’m afraid I’ll start hearing my Gobi rack and my tires.

Gobi no rise is pretty damn quiet. I'm sure the no rise option helps with that a ton. I don't hear mine either.

But I do hear my KO2's getting louder as they age.

I noticed a very slight increase in noise when comparing AT3W’s with less 5k to ones with about 50k. But minor and not very obvious.

My SL loads have gone from 13/32 (new) to 7/32 after ~30k miles. At that depth I'd be a little nervous running rocky trails. So it seems to me like fairly fast wear although I don't have much experience with other AT tires for comparison. I do like their on-road manners, and the Tire Rack testing seems to confirm that. Noise when new was not noticeably louder than the stock all season tires, and they may have got louder since but not significantly and not enough for me to notice. At the current tread depth I don't want to run them much more than maybe 10k more miles but I do like them and plan on replacing with AT4Ws, which Falken claims should have better tread life.
