Good Afternoon - I'm experiencing a single dull thump when first accelerating and then again when coming to a complete stop. Anny suggestions what this may be? Thanks!

Would it also cause a delay in shifting from first to second? sometimes , not often, it seems to stay in first a little too long.

Yes. I had the same problem with a six speed in a GM truck.

Your driveline (propellar shaft) needs to be lubricated. A lot of the v8's have it, I do as well. Servicing the trans can help as well, lots of opinions out there tho in regards how to depending on mileage. I'd ask a toyota mechanic and follow their advice.

When was the last time you greased your driveline? If you have 4wd there are two zerks on each driveshaft on the transfer case side, and one on each driveshaft on the differential side.

You just have to be careful greasing the zerks for the slide yoke since too much grease on those can pop a seal. The regular Ujoint zerks you can keep pumping grease till you see it come out the center cross-looking thing. Easy to do, just watch a video or two.

if I dont grease them every 15,000 miles or so, I can end up hearing a bit of a dull thump. I think it’s just the little bit of slop when they dry out.

Just a suggestion, had something similar happened, by my own fault, I neglected to tighten one wheel after changing brake pads.
