Drive shaft torque

I'm hearing a lot about checking the torque of the drive shaft bolts.

Do you all do that and if so at what interval?

Do the two drive shafts have different torque settings?

Also, anyone know what bolt type and torque it should be?

I have 130k kilometers and have not done that at all.

I removed my bolts when I bought my 4runner. Runs better that way for me.

 

Per the Warranty and Maintenance Guide the interval for greasing the prop shafts is 15,000 miles.

Per the Repair manual the torque all around is 65 ft-lbs.

Yup. Beats me why this is part of the maintenance schedule. The factory bolts have loc-tite on them. They're not going anywhere. I just ignore it.

 

I check them when greasing the U-joints. I just use a single wrench on the nut… if it doesn’t move, it’s tight enough. Never had one move.

 

It's probably because of lawyers.
