Have you thought about getting bars to block the rear seat and just using the space back there?

for short distances that’s fine, however I’m more geared toward long trips and training exercises when they need to be crated. We typically take our dogs on all our vacations. Im keeping the dogs safety in mind.

Have you thought about a building a custom setup? Maybe start with something like this and modify as needed?

    https://www.owens-pro.com/product/d...partment_various_sizes_standard_vents_diamond

Otherwise maybe just try different brands. These seem to be a little skinnier, in my experience and might fit two next to each other.
    https://www.cabelas.com/product/Ruff-Land-Large-Kennel/1210099.uts

I fit a large Pet porter with the back seat up the rear hatch just closes. It might fit a second same size but barely.

Best Crate for the back to keep them safe and be able to use the back seat area for people or equipment is the Trans K9 B29. We have one in our Outback and it is very well made, easy to keep clean, and we ride our 2 large Goldens in the back for field training. We have two of their fans, one for each side and they are easy to install and work well. The crates lock, so you can leave the back open if it is hot and keep the dogs safe and secure. You won’t have hair flying all over your car either. They have a rear escape hatch and just slide into the vehicle. Perfectly sized to fit the vehicle and fit behind the rear seats. We are getting ready to buy one for our new 4Runner. Can’t say enough good things about these.

If you don’t mind my asking, how much do your Goldens weigh? I was looking at this for my two Dobermans (one’s about 90lbs and the other will grow to about 70/80lbs.)

The other option on the table is the Variocage Universal. Difference being that the latter still gives them access to the wheel-wells/more head-room.

I pulled the trigger and got a Variogate. Still waiting on their center-divider to show up, as well as a Raingler net for behind the 2nd row seats, and Canvasback liners. This thing is sturdy, has keyed locks for each gate-door, and the option to padlock, as well.

My dogs get my entire cargo area behind 2nd row seating. I have lined that area with cargo cover lining. My goal was to make sure they stay there and not hurdle forward while I'm not looking. For months they defeated what I thought were affordable partitions, friction based supports, which could vibrate loose and fall. I acquired the rago molle storage panels with connecting shelf. I got a $20 cargo net from auto zone and tied it off to the side panels, shelf, and rear seat headrests. Its fool proof and I can actually store bits of cargo on the panels and on the shelf.

Blacked out grill and rear emblem. More on the way!
I know I am really late to this convo, but stumbled on it when searching the topic. To me, these are a glorified baby gate. In the event of an accident, especially a rear end collision, this does nothing to protect your dog

Me as well. His man cave kingdom is the rear cargo area. I separate with a rangler net. If general day to day i just put stuff im carrying into the back seat, if long trip i throw a rooftop box on.

@Antman - what did you decide on?
How did I miss this thread? This is one of the first things we did. 2 yrs & 9k miles we are happy with it.
I believe that you have seen our setup before but if not...
We have 1 85# GSD. I am 6'4 230# & I fit fine. It doesn't protect the gate but it is great for what it is! I feel 100% better knowing that he cannot go flying around the truck.

I have 2 ruffland crates for traveling. A large and Intermediate fit side by side and I strap to the anchor points to keep secure. Short trips around town they go in the back cargo area.
