I just bought a used 2017 set premium. I received one key and there's a tag that says VIP remote. Also, in the owners manual a separate booklet for remote start. I know this is a crazy ignorant question, is it possible mine is equipped? Do I look under the dash? Thanks

    Hi Kbjoch.

Have you read the remote start booklet that you found? It may give you instructions on how to use remote start right there. If you checked and it gives you no help then maybe try searching the brand of remote start the booklet, if the booklet says another brand, other than Toyota.

I also did a quick Google search and saw an article talking about how 2020 4Runners may have remote start. I don't know if any prior to 2020 would or even if my 2020 does (I'll check on my lunch break today), but they say to do the following:

    1. Press the lock button on your key fob.

    2. Press the lock button on your key fob a second time.

    3. Press and hold the lock button on your key fob for at least 3 seconds.

Your 4Runner's lights should start to flash and then the engine should turn on within a few seconds.

I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth giving it a try.

Otherwise, you can go to a reputable stereo shop and ask them to check to see if you have a remote start system already installed.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks Bad WLF,
    I've tried it, nada...
Just curious why dealer had attached tag to key with instructions and that booklet in glove box ...

Just checked on my lunch and my SR5 Premium 4x4 didn't start, so I'm guessing not. I don't remember seeing remote start listed on the window sticker anyways.
