I have owned trucks for the last couple years (one including a Toyota Tacoma which was the best vehicle I have ever owned), however, I felt I always had a jeep or something around to take camping and trail riding etc. I was thinking, why not invest in a 4runner, I've always liked them, and eliminate the need for a second vehicle. I have had the itch to build an overland rig, so felt this may be a great option, but had some questions on the trim packages.

It seems the best for me is going to be the TRD Off Road Premium, however, the one thing that bothers me is the manual climate control knobs. I definitely do not want the Limited, but I was curious if any of the TRD Off Road trim packages come with automatic/digital climate control with dual zone, etc? I would like to still maintain the e-locker and other TRD functions, so would definitely like to keep those.

Another thing is do all the suspension gimmicks like the KDSS and and X-REAS add any complications to suspension modifications? Should one or the other be avoided if suspension lifts/mods are in the future?

    Thanks for the help!

Well I am not a specialist on the trim models. I can say that the TRD Pro and limited I believe are the only ones with auto climate control. So if that is a show stopper I am not sure going over anything else matters as the TRD Pro only has one suspension type (Fox suspension). The limited you said no to. So :notsure:

If you are not stuck on the auto climate control than looking into the TRD Off-road premium sounds like your best bet. But in regards to suspension with Xreas and Kdss I can’t really speak other than you will have to make sure whatever aftermarket suspension you are looking into supports these technologies (which may reduce your suspension offerings). I know that Ironman 4x4 has the suspension for the Kdss. So I would look into the different suspension manufactures that you are seeking and see if they support it. Here are a few in no particular order:
    • King
    • Fox
    • Ironman
    • OME
    • Bilstein
    • Icon
    • and so much more…
I sure hope that helps get you going. Good luck on your research.
