Dealer GPS Tracker?

New to me 2021 4Runner. Found this attached to my battery. Any ideas?

Just bought it? Man, I’d be tempted to put that assembly in a used grocery bag, walk into the sales manager’s office, and put it on his desk. Then walk right back out without speaking a word.

 

Another dirty tactic these used car stealerahips do. Did they tell you they only have 1 key and if you want another one is would cost another $400? Like a previous post stated its easier to repo a vehicle and they have the 2nd key.

 

Yeah, they only had one key. I knew not to ask because they would for sure want to sell me one for +$300. Sam’s Club sets up a mobile vendor at various times and locations for keys for about $280 with reprogramming.

 

Whaaaaaat? Don't give it back to them. Make them eat the cost so they have to spend money on ANOTHER one. Maybe it's just me, because I can be a petty mofo, but I'd bag it up, walk up to the mangers desk and smash it right in front of him.

The key is to not say a single word and do not break eye contact. It's how you establish dominance with car salesmen & general managers.

Yes it’s GPS. Just toss it and move on

 

it was installed on top of the battery with zip ties to the battery support brace.


It has been tossed in the trash.

 

Hell, they did even try and hide it. Hopefully they just forgot to remove it.

 

And they installed it upside down, to boot.

 

Installing faith in the service department on a daily basis.....

 

If you're technically-inclined and laptop-equipped, there's a Techstream 18 copy in a Windows XP VM floating around online that you can use to program a key yourself.

So total cost would be the key, cutting the blade, cable to plug into car. (You'll be able to toggle settings as well like the hold-unlock-to-roll-windows one too.)

 

Tracker that uses the cellular network to phone home. Note the IMEI number: it probably has a SIM built-in.
