Had a cell phone mount on the dash when I bought my 4Runner. I removed it and guess I damaged the dash a little trying to remove the residue. Anyone have tips on how to repair this, it looks like some paint came off.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
A guy in another forum had a similar issue. A person recommend this:

...and the OP said it worked for him.

I’ve used this is my vehicles and it works great. It’s gentle and meant for interior plastics and I’ve used it on Honda screens without issue. Never tried for a residue but it’s cleaned all my interior plastics well and not made anyone spot stand out more than another. Just use with your door open for a a minute the smell is strong for me anyway but dissipates after a few minutes.

I would check into replacing the dash pad. I don’t think it’s repairable.

The matte finish on the dash seems very easy to mar. My suspicion is that the more you try to clean it, the more it shines up the matte finish and makes it stand out. If you think it’s residue, I’d try gently spot cleaning it using some interior cleaner using very light pressure, not scrubbing.

But if it’s not residue, maybe it’s basically marred. At that point maybe I’d try using something like an armor all cleaner on the whole dash to try to match everything. Or just leaving it be, or maybe getting a dash pad to cover it up.

This is not repairable. Basically the really small plastic groves bend on pressure and deform.
You could try blending it it with a Polish or something.

Goo Gone might work, would try some on small area that’s not easily visible. I’ve had really good luck with it, can’t hurt to try.

I would think goo gone is the last thing you would want to try on plastic like this. The factory finishing on the dash is way too touchy.
