Bilstein 3'' lift with 2.5'' rear coil (30%). Cooper ST Max 265/70/17
    Hello Fellas:

In March I put a Bilstein 5100/OME 3" Lift (front) and 2.5" (rear 30% over) on my "daughters" 2008 4runner. I also installed 265/70/17 ST Maxx tires. The stock tire size was 265/65/17. I thought I wouldn't rub because the tires are the same width and the height difference was about an inch. I was wrong probably because the angles changed on the CV which brought the tire closer to the UCS. Now I have a slight rub on the driver's side front fender which is easily fixable but more problematic I rub slightly on the UCA when going up and down two-tracks. The CV boots are pretty much smoked.

I've decided to replace both cv joints and I'm thinking about installing a 1'' diff drop. I also think it would be a good idea to replace the wheels to get more space.

Here are my questions: 1) what offset and backspace should I look for with a new wheel - I'm thinking about factory 2008 FJ wheels which have a -12mm offset; 2) Should I consider spacers; 3) What do you guys think about diff drops? Are they worth a shit?; 4) Any other recommendation you have to prolong the new cvs and prevent tire rub on the UCA?

    Thanks,

    Aaron

in general any lift over 2.0 would need the diff drop from my understanding. Looks like 1" or 1.8" is the general standard for 4Runner with a 3" lift. One guy said a 1.8" drop kit physically dropped the 4runner angle by 1/2"

Think you need aftermarket UCAs more than a diff drop.

I’m not doubting what your saying but why do you think I need new uca’s instead of a diff drop?
