My son has a new 07 4runner sr5 4wd. Needs a drivers side cv axle. I called the local toyota stealership for a price and fainted. 589.48 After hanging up, I called back because shurley he had made a mistake!! No, different man answered the phone. Has anybody used the cardone or the apwi on rockauto?

I’ve bought new ones from Napa and they’ve been good.

Hey OP, there seems to be a few options for you to pick! Obviously you’d not like to pay the stealership price. So maybe a reman axle will do? CV J axles remans for a fraction of the price! I’ve personally used and haven’t had an issue. Your other option is the lifetime Napa gold which tend to break with any hard wheeling but they do have a lifetime warranty!! Hope that helps

I installed the cardone heavy duty CV axles and have not had a problem. I had to replace both sides of mine. This truck is a 2008 with 160k. It is a work vehicle that spends a good amount of time offroad.

Can anyone give me the seal numbers to replace on the wheel side and inside for the drivers side for the v6 4wd? I have 710596 for one. It is national brand.

Can't answer the seal PN, for CV axles my Toyota dealer (yes, the Dealer service department) recommended they install CVJ reman'd shafts. https://www.cvjreman.com/product-tag/9808/

$895 parts and labor for both sides didn't bother me much, no way I was gonna do it myself.

When you get those new axles installed I recommend a good soaking of Aerospace 303 on the boots every chance you get. Rubber loves 303, and from what I've seen boot deterioration is what causes a lot of CV failures.

We swapped the axle out with a cardone from rock auto, so far no leaks. Had to buy a socket for the axle and 10mm allen wrench. It is not a real hard job, saved a lot of money by doing ourselves. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Just installed mine and got genuine Toyota. I figured if they last another 14 years with all the wheeling and road trips they would be worth it. Also changed the bearing while I was at it. Took about a 8 hours for both. The axle nut is 35mm.
