Cussing on Christmas Eve: cracked TRD Pro Roof Rack Plastic Bracket

    So while installing my TRD Pro roof rack today, I over torqued a bolt and cracked the plastic mounting bracket as shown here.

    1) how big of a problem is this?

    2) does anybody know if I can buy a replacement for this?

    The regular JB works just fine on plastics. My advise is to remove the bracket, use a sharp point knife or scribe and scratch up the inside where the JB is to be applied, apply a pool of JB and let it cure overnight. It will be much stronger than the stock ones.

    What I've done on cracked automotive plastics before (interior door panel on a Jeep Wrangler) is add either some fiberglass fabric, or even a piece of sheet metal on the glued side. If you're planning on the JB Weld on the underside of the bracket, and there's room for a small piece of sheet metal, I'd add that or the fiberglass mesh to strengthen the repair.

    Or not.

    Thanks - I will be keeping the rack however. I had actually listed the rack for sale on that other 4Runner forum before I installed it, but then I ended up installing it and really liked the look, so will be keeping it.

    Thanks to all for the advice on the repair. I used a whole bunch of regular JB Weld on the back side of the piece where it was cracked, with surface prep including sanding, scratching up with a chisel, cleaning, and alcohol wipe. I also incorporated a couple of pieces of perforated metal sheet into the JB Weld for extra strength. It reinstalled with no issues and looks just fine to me!
