I recently installed a Sherpa Crestone rack and got it ready for two Apache 9800 cases. During the repeated install/take down of the cases to get everything lined up correctly, the sharp top edge of the side rails chewed up my arms pretty good. I asked Zach at Sherpa about the rubber trim piece they use on the bottom of the fairing, and he pointed me to something similar on Amazon. In lieu of adhesive, the internal rubber "claws" hold it firmly in place, but allow for easy removal/adjustments. We'll see if all the pieces are still there after our upcoming road trip. The only downside is the cross bars and mounting feet prevent you from using one continuous piece from front to back. Any future adjustments to cross bar locations would require cutting new pieces. But wrestling with a long case with your arms resting on the top edge of the rail is much more comfortable than having the raw edge.

Safety first, if you sliced your arm open out in BFE in would surely ruin your trip, possibly cut it short. The trim pieces don’t look too bad, I’d run with them. I wonder if you could notch them to miss the bolts in order to run one continuous piece. You could apply a little contact cement to the top of the rail where they pass by the bolts if they tend to lift in that area.
