    Mall crawling kit.
Looking at the pictures, mods, etc. it looks like these were hard 220K miles. I would pass on that specific 4Runner because of that.

Just too many negatives for me. 1. It's been in an accident. 2. It's in Ohio right now which is Rust Belt territory and you can't inspect it. 4. 220K miles, that said I bought a well documented 4gen 2UZ-FE with 207K that runs perfectly, the 1GR-FE is a Great Mill too. 5. Lot's of Mods, to me that is a negative, better to find a stock, garage kept, one owner vehicle, they are out there you just have to keep looking. You said you had other Vehicles so I'm assuming this is going to be toy, wait for the right vehicle that you can crawl all over to inspect. I'm in the Mid Atlantic, 5th Gens are like flies at a Texas BBQ they are freakin everywhere and still over priced because the 6th gens are stupid expensive and not very popular.

Crazy is the right word. Pretty much all used cars are over-valued.

Used 4runners in general always seem to be priced as if they were in perfect condition with no wear and tear. That’s almost always the wrong assumption to make, even on Toyota “Gold” CPO.

Even assuming good preventive maintenance and a healthy engine and transmission, at 220k miles, any 4runner could realistically need an additional $5k on suspension on and driveline work on the near horizon (such as control arms, ball joints, wheel bearings, blown out shocks, CV boots or axles, etc.). That’s not counting unseen existing problems such as any leaky seals on the engine, transmission, transfer case, or rear axle seals. Leaks aren’t usually a problem for 4runners that are in continual use by one owner, but once it starts changing hands, you don’t know how long it sat unused.

The vehicle may also have “unsolvable” problems that can often lead previous owners to dump them.

All this to say, this might be an ok risk to take if you’re not going into debt for it, you have the money to pay for the things that are going to be worn out, *and* if you can personally drive and inspect the vehicle. Sight unseen only works when you can stand to lose the money. Otherwise it’s a really bad bet.

edit to add: if this is going to be an extra “play” vehicle, a fly and buy might be a reasonable alternative to having it shipped. You could inspect and drive it, and only be out the airfare if it sucks. If you buy it, it’s always fun to bond with a new play vehicle on a long road trip. Usually by the time you get back home, you’ll know what needs immediate attention.

Don’t get distracted by the bolt on accessories. It’s still a a vehicle with over 200K and most of it is worn out.

Those look like empty relay sockets from this distance, which should not be left exposed in the engine bay...

For reference when I bought my 24 4Runner used with 20k, (build date 10/23) it looked like it went through a mud rally just before it was traded in.
The salesman asked if I could come back after they washed, and detailed it. I said no, it’s fine. To me a shiny engine bay, all that jazz etc they might be trying to hide something. I like to know my runner went balls out before I bought it and it survived whatever Karen or Chad was doing in it before me lol.

The mileage isn’t that big of a concern to me. Looks like same year and trim are going for 18-20k.

Previous owner may have already taken care of wear and tear items. Or not. Who knows.

I’d see what kind of out the door number they could do before seriously considering it.

    21 TRD Pro - "Photon"
    1. After the 20K mile service this vehicle doesn't have record of the MAJOR 60K service.
    2. No indications that the either the xfer case, front/rear diffs were ever serviced...same for lube of the propeller shaft.
    3. Blown Cat and O2 sensor seems very odd to me...someone run race fuel or something through this engine? Or pounded the accelerator pedal like no tomorrow?
I'd want to have a really deep look at the suspension, links and all rubber bushings. What condition are the bump stops in? I'd also would want an alignment shop run some numbers on it cause I'd be concerned about the condition of the knuckles since with such large tires and who knows how it was driven off-highway the potential for bent knuckles is there. Like was mentioned previously about the cosmetic condition of the engine bay, suggests this vehicle saw a good deal of off-highway use.

Just for giggles, this is a pic of my rig' engine bay (bay was never washed since I bought her) at just over two years into ownership and around a few hundred miles of desert/forest trail runs.

I know some folks direct wire their winch solenoid directly to the battery and this one appears to be configured the same way. It's just safer to include a cutoff or power solenoid here...not to mention that there's a potential for parasitic draw on the vehicles battery...speaking of which, that one looks like it'll need replacement soon.

All in all, at +200K questionable mileage I would pass, all of those goodies on this build are eye candy, functional yes but detracts from what underlies it all. Like a house, if it has good 'bones' then it just may be worth pursuing especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time. And speaking of 'bones', this dealership may be stating there is no signs of rust, I'd want to see pics of the underside fasteners (front/rear shock mounts, cam tab bolts, etc.) as most of these are the first metal bits to show signs of corrosion. Frame weldments usually come next followed closely by any internal thread attachment points on the frame rails.

I will note each of the "display rocks" on the dealer's curb is worth like $600

Nobody on here will truly know. Only way is to look it over in person and test drive it.

Where in Ohio is this, OP? Depending on location I can go evaluate it for you.
