You kind of know what I mean. I was talking about the 'mom & pops' trying to sell 'top tier', how do they absorb big maintenance bills? How many thousands of people stop daily at the places you mentioned? They can absorb a big maintenance bill easily. Speedway is owned by 7-11, and Buc ees, ya I like the banana pudding, and the wraps. We stop at these places when on vacation and to the best of my recall we haven't suffered any catastrophic failures yet. What I'm saying is there are more 'top tier' gas stations than not and you have better odds of finding 'top tier', so if ya run what ya consider 'crap gas' through it, you'll probably run some 'top tier' through it later. It will probably be another 3 mos. before this debate comes up again, kind of like oil. Ha Ha

I’m glad we agree on Buc ees. I do understand what you’re saying. In fact, I can’t even remember the last mom and pop gas station I’ve seen. Our neighbors family owned about 50. The dad made a risky bet and put them up as collateral for a golf course chain. Lost all the gas station. Now the daughter whose my neighbor sells real estate

I went to Costco this morning and it was $3.49 per gallon. The Chevron near me is $4.68 per gallon. So filing up at Costco saves me about $17+ dollars. It’s not just 5¢ difference for some of us.

I had to google Buccees since we don’t have this in CA. Holy sheet, that’s a gigantic gas station and there’s food too. Woah.

I prefer going to Costco to get my gas since it’s cheaper than most, cleanest, and no sketchy homeless people hanging around. I guess I’m lucky that my Costco gas station isn’t too busy. I went at 9 this morning, no lines, and there were about 10 cars there (30 cars can fill up at one time).

    Nope.

If you plan to keep your 4Runner for a long time, then keeping deposits down maintains the efficiency of the motor. Your ability to pass smog will be extended. Injectors will maintain normal performance longer. MPG's will maintain longer rather than falling off. Wear metals are reduced.

But like I've said multiple times now, most people don't keep their 4runners long enough for this to make a difference to them.

I’ve got one truck in the driveway with 215K miles and another with 130K. When should I start seeing all these gasoline related issues that you’re worried about. LOL.

The corn industry folk are definetely not environmentaliats. The environmental argument for ethanol falls apart when you factor in the massive water and petroleum inputs.

Great pitch of the benefits to the public and I’m not doubting the upsides, but doesn’t cover why the ball got rolling in the first place!

And prior I had an 87 Pathfinder that went almost as far as my 3G, all on a diet of fuel from mixed sources. What does this say about fuel quality effects? Neither vehicle had any issues with smog inspections, fuel economy over the life of each vehicle dropped but not by any appreciable amount that I can say was attributed to just normal/typical wear and tear. It would be an interesting observation to have done complete engine rebuilds on both just to see what happens to fuel economy with new bearings, valve seats, etc.

I believe its mainly the Denver gas stations. But the Maverick I go to never got bad gas. Shell gas is fine here too. We only have 1 refinery in our state, Suncor. Just north of Denver. Some articles say its possible up the front range to Cheyenne, may have been delivered that far

I will say this, its frustrating to have a state that won't hold those accountable. We still don't have a full list of affected gas stations. I own three cars and consider myself lucky

Was that the truck you put Restore and Protect in?

The same one you use a fuel additive with?

Yes. I think I only used restore and protect one time. I couldn’t find it for the next oil changes.

the best gas is the gas in your tank. it won’t be there for long anyway since 4runners burn gas so quickly. not enough time for anything to happen.

There is also such a long line at my local Costco station, I don't bother. Though since I don't commute in my 4Runner they are very seldomly fueled up. My "commuter" car gets about 41 mpg and I feed it Chevron since it runs the happiest on that brand of gas.

It seemed like it may have quieted the engine a bit but no scientific evidence.

Except for my 4R. She sits all winter and has full tank but full of stabil also. It will burn up in the spring after a long winters nap.

We just paid $2.59/gal. at our local Costco, no line and drove right up. But we waited behind 3 people at the Pharmacy and 2 people at the register.

I didn’t notice it being any darker than usual but I didn’t look too closely at it either.

That sounds like a brilliant marketing plan from Valvoline. You need to use this product for two years to see results. :D
I just found some at Walmart so I’ll put it in my Tacoma again for its oil change this weekend. The 4Runner is getting Kirkland for the next couple oil changes because it was cheap.

    Looking at the Costco website:
“Kirkland Signature™ Gasoline contains five times the EPA detergent requirement in both regular unleaded and premium grades.”

Top Tier gasoline may not result in any noticeable difference in our old 4Runner engines, but it’s more important in the newer high-efficiency GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) fuel systems with small turbo boosted engines where injector fouling can be a big problem.

Saw the pump at Costco says “TOP TIER+ Approved Fuels”

Is that some new, even Toppier Tier that was created?
